Hey there,

Just joined from Illinois. My hunting experience is mostly upland. A buddy and I are planning to drop camp elk hunt this fall in CO. He's hunted elk in CO before, this will be my first elk trip, although I've been to the Rockies several times before. I've always been an outdoors person but as I'm approaching "retirement" age, I'm still exploring.

I found Rokslide and have found a lot of valuable information here that is helping be prepare for this coming fall. Thanks for all the great info and everyone sharing their experiences!

Welcome to the forums! I am a newbie here too, and there is a TON of information to get through.

Thanks all! Yes, I’ve found some valuable info here- probably the best is to get in shape to deal with the elevation change. We’re only 750 feet AMSL here!

Luckydraw- I’m in the north central part of the PRI, near Rockford.

Welcome to the group!! I haven't been a member long and have nothing but great things to say about Rockslide!!!

Cool. I’m in McHenry just on the border like yourself.

Great! About 10 years ago I used to go through there quite often on the way to my parents’ place near Lake Villa. I’m thinking I can do some conditioning in the hills in southern WI rather than just walking around the cornfields here!

There’s plenty of hills and ravines at Castle Rock. I usually do my pack days at Devils Lake. Hit me up if you ever want to take a conditions stroll there some nice areas in SW.

Thanks. I've hiked through Castle Rock and Devil's Lake before. I plan to head up to both this spring/summer. I'll let you know when I'm going.
