  • Not sure what your method of hunting is, but I am currently planning on a backpack/bivy hunt. Again, open to anything, I just can't really afford an outfitter or pack animals or anything like that.

Last constraint is that I need to end up in Texas for my dad's 60th on the evening of the 15th or morning of the 16th.]

Let me know what you think, I'm really just trying to get into the woods and start learning

I will be using truck to stay mobile as the pressure will keep them on the move. I have my RTT and backcountry sleep kit so I am flexible. I can pay for an outfitter but would rather do it myself. This will be my 2nd trip to Colorado and 3rd elk trip, long time hunter.
    Thanks for reaching out man!

Still deciding between driving and flying (Currently in savannah GA). As it stands right now paying for a rental car solo is making flying cost prohibitive, and the price of gas and driving solo is making the drive pretty spendy. Current spot I have picked out is in unit 521, but obviously I'm up for anything.

I am in IL so definitely driving, plus I have my RTT on top. I was in the West Elk in 2020 and spent a few days in 521 just north of Paonia. I have mapped out 43, 34 and 521 for this go around. Starting in 34 and will head south as the week progresses. Plan is staying mobile with the truck but will have my backcountry gear on my back, using the spotter to find the elk.
