Just finished shooting 24 arrows down the side of the house. First 6 arrows were sloppy, by sloppy i mean within 3" of bullseye, but all the rest were solid. I like to make sure I'm within an inch of a quarter sized target
Now I'm going to make some venison enchiladas. I'm hungry!
I just got done with my homemade circuit training that I do on Thursday nights.
-5 sets of 30 push-ups
-5 sets of 15 an wheel
-5 sets of 50 abcycles
-5 sets of 10 burpees
-5 sets of 2 minute round shadow boxing
All one right after another and only 30 second break after a complete circuit
My diet is close to the same everyday and so is my walk so no need to update that but I do have a different workout everyday so I will keep you updated on that. This Sunday morning I will be going on a 6 mile hike up into the mountain behind my house. There is a pond up in the red rocks that the animals drink from and I usually see a doe or two and occasionally some rams. I will bring my spotter and phone skope to take some pics and share with you. Just another way to get ready for the hunt. I am getting really pumped its only 5 days away!
Back from the gym. Every Friday after work I do an RPM cycling class and it kicks my a$$. I had the instructor take the picture before the class started, believe me it fills up in there and it gets muggy from all the body's sweating.
I will be leaving straight from work on Wednesday the 2nd at 1:30pm here in Las Vegas. From here ill be heading into AZ over the Hoover dam and into Kingman where we will purchase our license and tags at wal-mart. From there we head into Flagstaff and head south on the 17 passing Sedona. After that we take a left on 260 and head east till it turns into the 87 heading south again passing Pine and Strawberry in rim country, good elk there. Keeping on this route we come to Payson. This is where we will get our last bite to eat before we live off of mountain house, oatmeal, and other bland foods. Probably going to make it burger and fries! At this point it should be about 7:30-8:00. From there we head south about another half of an hour where we come to the trailhead. The area we will be hunting is closed to motorized vehicles so the only people we will see will be on foot. We will be starting our hike in at about 9:00 pm for about a 2 hour hike. It's about four miles to where will be camping so we should be there by about 11:00pm. Hopefully we will have camp set up and asleep by midnight. Probably wont be able to sleep because of the excitement of the day ahead. Stay tuned, I have a funny story about the friend coming along on the hunt with me.
A little heads up with the friend that decided come with. His name is Lyle and we work together sort of. We both work for the county but different departments. We met this summer on an archery cow elk hunt in area 231 in NV. Man there are some monster bucks in that unit. He has never backpack hunted before and was intrigued by the stories I told him about my backcountry hunts in the past. After thanksgiving he called me and said that he wanted to come along on the AZ hunt and I asked him if he had a pack to go into the backcountry and he said yes it's about 1000ci and I replied "man we've got some work to do to get you ready". As I explained that he needed a bigger pack and all of the things that he would need for the hunt he said "where do you carry your beer" I cracked up laughing and he said "no I'm serious". This is going to be interesting to say the least. It's not like he isn't a hunter because he is, he spends at least 40+ days a year in the field but he does it from base camp and does only day hunts then back to the campfire and drink beer at night. I told him he should purchase an eberlestock blue widow on sale from Lathrop n Sons for $250, I figured that would be good to get him started and I'm letting him use my old one man tent, bag and pad. I can say now that he is ready to go. We will see how he does and I'm not babysitting. One good thing is that he is a meat hunter so he can stalk the small ones and he won't bother me with the mature bucks.
Tomorrow I will post some photos of my hike I'm doing in the morning
I started my hike this morning at 6:15am and wanted to do at least 6+ miles but I ate something bad from a Hawaiian restaurant last night and I only did about 5 miles. My stomach is killing me! Here are some photos from the hike
The pond from above. I did a little glassing from up there because of the good vantage but didn't locate anything. I think it's because the pond was frozen solid and the game moved over a couple basins to the spring mtns where there is running water.
Sorry for not updating. I was going to go over gear list for the hunt today but the stomach bug got me. Not feeling well at all but I promise to post my gear list tomorrow starting with clothing then archery tackle, pack, optics, and diet.
