Here's another angle on sheep captures and transplants - How many other states have benefited? Looks like a several to me. Colorado has a bighorn sheep management plan that caps the total number of sheep in available habitat. That keeps some separation to between herds to purposely limit interactions between herds to hopefully prevent an all age die off that could spread statewide. That is one reason you will not see an increase year over year of more than just a few hundred animals in overall population. We basically have sheep at a near max capacity in most places in Colorado where they can exist without risk of contact with domestics and their deadly diseases.

Chart from WSF website- https://www.wildsheepfoundation.org...anada,1922-Present-Reduced.pdf?20160620034332

Lots of good info there is you care to look.

With all that auction money they should be able to help with winter range habitat shouldn't they? How have you helped with that problem since you are so involved with sheep

half ass Insults is all you have to provide because you cant argue the fact the sheep numbers are down across the west

Hey I'm all for displacing people in favor sheep out of every western state.

How do you propose to accomplish that?

You get half ass insults because you have ground your axe so much all you have left is a handle.

I’ve worked on guzzler and habitat projects, written and public testimony, and bought raffle tickets.

Btw they’re full ass insults.

Your post is pure speculation that they arent better then they would have otherwise been without help.

Your post - " Millions of dollars and sheep are not better off"
My post - "Millions of dollars so the sheep havent been wiped out"

neither one of us can prove either statement. Unless you have a time machine?!?!?

Some logical conclusions can be came up with when you look at the sum of the factors and related data in an objective way.

Sheep are going better than allot of other game species considering all the factors.

The population of bighorn sheep in Idaho has been declining, and the species is now considered sensitive by the Forest Service and BLM:

Population decline
The population of Rocky Mountain bighorn sheep in central Idaho has decreased from 10,000 to fewer than 1,600 in recent decades.

Isolated herds
Many of the remaining sheep live in isolated herds of fewer than 100, which puts them at a higher risk of extinction.

Logic tells me bigsheep in idaho are not doing very well.....

You can read but you can’t seem to connect the dots.

The biggest issue affecting sheep is the domestics in Idaho, for example Fnaws lead the charge to get the Payette allotment bought out, that rancher created a large die off. His asshole brother trailed his domestics through a herd on the Oregon side and killed that herd in hopes of getting the same payout.

And then you add wolves etc and it’s not hard to see why we’re having problems, but yet you continue to argue that the groups like WSF and FNAWS who are fighting to protect them are ineffective and a waste. It’s a logical fallacy on it part. If nothing was being done it’s way worse, look at mtn caribou in the lower 48 as for example.

My problem with the organizations for any species is there push for auction tags. I never said they don't do anything but all you continue to say sheep are better off because of auction tags and that is not the case.

How many of the guys paying crazy prices for auction tags would just donate that money without the tag? if they can't harvest a sheep off the large donation that donation is not coming...so do they really care about wild sheep..

The guys that buy a auction tag are Not the ones out working on projects for the species they show up buy a tag pay guides to find their animal of choice then go home they don't care about the species they care about a trophy and that is it

I know of a decent sized property that was for sale multiple times that sheep use heavily, especially for lambing. It could have been bought multiple times over by all these auction tag conservationists but instead has a mini mansion on it, is platted for more development and has at times had domestic sheep and goats present on it. But buying it and keeping it from development wouldn’t have put a ram in a trophy room like buying a tag does

How do you think the projects are paid for, magic? WSF, FNAWS, and other conservation groups all take a percentage of the funds to pay for these projects.

Until the average hunter is willing to pony up and join organizations that make a difference and put their wallet where there mouth is, this is the system we are left with.

I am not sure that's what the wsf is after when the president/ceo is drawing a 330k salary from a non profit organization that only has 10,000 memebers

i am not sure it's a organization that cares about the average hunter. They care about the rich hunter that supports there salary the next step down below the ceo made 168k for such a small organization to have over 1 million in salary tells you alot About what they care about $ and sheep is the product they sell sure they do some good but at what cost

I’d guess a couple of the frequent auction tag guys could have paid cash for it, donated it to a conservation group or state/federal agency and made all the money back in write offs

Irony at its finest.

“Rich guys only want to fund sheep if they can hunt them.”

“But we don’t have more advocates because rich guys buy all the sheep tags”

“and regular guys don’t want to donate to sheep cuz they can’t hunt them…”

Your hands must be getting tired grasping at straws

Imagine how much money could be raised in a raffle with some simple advertising. 180000 nr buying points in a wyoming if you got half that number to buy a single raffle ticket and cap every buyer at one ticker for 25 that would raise way more then a auction tag and You would likely get more hunters to care about sheep then a select group of ultra wealthy

You obviously did read I said cap the raffle tags one per person. Don't allow unlimited purchases or you are correct that the rich just buy a bunch of raffle tickets and that just makes average hunters un interested. Everyone on the same playing field will get more hunters interested and maybe more hunters advocating for wild sheep. Vs seeing someone pay 600k for a tag then pay outfitters and buddies to go scout for him to kill a sheep.

Do you have anything to show the difference between the amount of advertising that idaho does for the raffle tag vs the auction tags you are referring to or is that just your opinion. Because I have never seen one advertisement from idaho about raffle tags.

It's funny how with a raffle alot claim you cants make as much money for sheep probabaly just trying to keep it like the European model rich guys buy kill tags and claim they are helping the sheep population when most areas have been on the decline for years. Sheep need advocates more then the money from auction tags More advocates will result in more money

Limit the raffle tags to one per person you will get more people involved.example of this is look at wyoming super tags unlimited purchase and with 10 tags they only got 500k more then the nevada silver state tags and that's only 4 tags. More hunters that care about sheep and more money will come in it's not that difficult to understand. auction tags are in place to give the rich guys there playground they are not doing it for the good of the species.

If NV advertised those tags outside of hunters that applied in nv they would crush what any auction tag would provide.

That 20 per applicant is a kick in the bucket to eliminate auction tags I would be on board with that

Then NV could advertise that with the extra fee they are going to Raffle off tags and everyone that applied in NV gets entered probabaly get more regular applicants as well for elk deer and antelope if they started that

My problem with the organizations for any species is there push for auction tags. I never said they don't do anything but all you continue to say sheep are better off because of auction tags and that is not the case.

This is true
“But we don’t have more advocates because rich guys buy all the sheep tags”
They have auction tags set aside need to go no better then outfitter set asides that most on here didnt like when wyoming propsed it

talk about irony we dont want outffitters to have set aside tags but lets have auction tags that only the top less then 1 percent have a chance at.....
“and regular guys don’t want to donate to sheep cuz they can’t hunt them…”
That is not in any of the post you quoted.

But it's more about a chance to get a opportunity at a tag they have zero chance with auction tags for most.
Your hands must be getting tired grasping at straws
Who's grasping looks like you. raffle tags would bring more interest in sheep like it or not. It will give more a opportunity at a chance vs just setting aside tags for the highest bidder.

The average sportsman when sheep tags are no longer will still be supporting sheep through local licenses sales of other species and added fees for forest service use permit and what ever else is dreamed up in the future the rich auction tag buyer will check out can't buy my kill permit will move on

So you think there should be a cap set on what someone else’s salary should be?? Or how much they should be allowed to pay their employees?

You do realize that a position like president or CEO even at a non profit takes a very talented person to keep it going. People who are capable of running a large business/non profit like that are not going to work for a company that doesn’t pay them a competitive wage. Not everyone is capable of doing that type of job and the ones that are capable are not going to do it for free.

Well if he can raise 7.5 million from just 10k members…. I’d say the board is getting their money’s worth
