Who has them? Thoughts for a spot and stalk low/mid county Early archery mule deer hunt?
Are the quite? Decent support? lightweight breathable.?

Love mine for a particular use case and every day wear. There's a thread or two on these if you want to dig through them but I'll give you a quick rundown. They are great for spot/stalk, very quiet. They are not super light and do not breathe well since they are full leather. They also don't offer much support.

I wear them (the barefoot version) as an everyday boot. I’ve used them to white tail hunt in the east and done a few other trips. They aren’t my preferred for the mountains (that sits with the vivobarefoot tracker esc) as the tread isn’t aggressive enough for me. But they are great boots. They offer better protection against pointy objects (thorns etc) than the soft sole vivo. So if your hunting AO has a lot of cactus or something similar they will work great.

I may resole them in the future with a vibram sole, but for now they are great.

Love mine, very comfortable. Standard sole is definitely geared for African grasslands. Not sure I’d wear them for steep side-hilling on damp grass.

I bought a pair of the Jim Greene African ranger composite toes as work boots. I’ve been pretty happy. I imagine the standard rangers are better, but there’s not many, if any options, for zero drop safety toe boots.

They breathe like normal leather boots. They have decent support, as to be expected from ankle height leather boots. The sole flexes. Not as much as a vivo barefoot, but not as stiff as your standard full leather boots with a sole.

I wear barefoot rangers daily. Not my high country boot of choice without a different outsole. With a grippier sole they could be a usable boot. Iv been hunting in my barefoot troopers with a vibram sole and they have been good.

FWIW Jim green makes a decent boot for the money, they just don’t offer a viable sole for high country imo.

Same as above. I wear the shorter rangers almost daily and find them to be comfortable and breathable even in Texas summer if you care for the leather. They are a durably constructed, lightish-weight, decently-priced option in zero drop. I’ve hunted the last couple of years with the taller troopers and in sandy soil, hilly to flat grasslands, the sole is good. It also grips rock well, and due to the lack of lugs, is quiet. I did want for a more aggressive sole at the S2H course, but haven’t had it changed. I also added wool/felt insoles for colder temps and they make a worthwhile difference.

There’s a bunch of Jim green threads floating around as well with various boots that have been resoled.

Regardless of if you want to hunt in them I think the rangers are a decent value boot that is worth a resole when the originals wear out (which seems to happen quickly) I wear rangers daily at work (fire/ems) as well as at home for daily stuff. They take a beating like a legacy boot.

I'll throw in a recommendation for the JG Barefoot Razorback. Sole is going to be just like the Ranger, so the same likes/dislikes there. I really like the padded ankles in the Razorback when lacing tight over the ankle (loose over foot).

How quiet are Vivos. All I do is bow hunt so a quite boot is a must.
Right now i switch into vibram five fingers for a a stalk.
I would say socks are a 10/10 quite and five fingers are an 8/10
Where do these fit in. I would love not have too take the time to switch my boots out when i get close

The super soft JG Barefoot sole is quieter than my Vivo ESC soles and even more so in the rocks down here. The JG sole is stickier in the rocks than the ESC soles too. The ESC can be sketchy on slick rocks and even worse on wet rocks. I will not wear any Vivo sole for anything that might have technical rocks in the picture. I’ve been liking my JG’s over the Vivo’s for most everything these days.

Thanks for all the info guys. I ordered two pair of Rangers, the standard model and the AnatomX.
I am flying out the end of july to scout this tag for august. I plan on bringing a pair along with my Lowa Innovo Mids.
I will see what i think what works best for this topography and what i bring back with me in august .

For what it’s worth, the new Jim Green barefoot sole (like what’s found on the moc toes and anatomX) seems halfway decent for the mountains. I’m still going to resolve mine with something else when they wear out but they’re definitely usable for the stuff I hunt

Not to hijack, but does anyone here have feedback on the Rose Anvil barefoot soles? Custom ordered some Barefoot Troopers since the Rose Anvil sole was the only barefoot sole available in a 16.

I like them quite a bit, and really like my barefoot troopers over the rangers.

With that said, they are soft and gummy and seem to wear quickly. Not deep lugs, so maybe not the best traction for some uses.

But they fit my needs well as they are grippy on a metal roof to wet pavement and the shallow lugs clean easy if I have to go from muddy jobsite to fancy office building in short order without leaving a huge trail of mud chunks or having to switch boots immediately.

I'd venture to say dry sand is their element. Clay type mud, definitely not.

As an everyday boot, not in snow, they are excellent.

In a dry country boot, they are usable

In wet/snow, steep and loose they are useless.
