Jetstream and rain

So I used my jetstream for 9 days straight in different temps and seemed to work great. The 9th day it rained while walking up an old logging road and after an hour the arms soaked through. No brush busting or anything and carrying my bow to my side. Is that normal? I thought I read that they should last about 5 hours in a light rain.

How old is it and how much has it been washed? The DWR May be worn out. Their are a few things that can help. Spray on or wash in repellents. Even a spin in a warm dryer for 20-30 mins can help.

DWR at best will shed a mist or very light rain for a few minutes or any garment. Light shell would be best to take over something like the jetstream.

Hmm. Mines a couple of years old and it seems to handle rain a little better. Maybe try the garden hose test and reach out to Sitka.

I have had one for probably a decade and love it, but if it is raining I use a shell. It can take a little moisture for sure, but It isn't built for water, DWR or not.

A friend once gave me some great advice regarding marraige: You don't buy a table expecting it to become a chair. I think the same principle applies to jackets.

Wearing a backpack? If so you're asking for too much in the strap contact points.

Thanks guys I guess I should have done a little more research. I was going off the description on their website that stated it sheds water for hours. Maybe I should look into the FL seak?

I contacted Sitka and they apologized and will be fixing the description on their website(someone make a mistake) and offered to swap my jetstream for the cloudburst but I decided not to give it up

If you expect to stay dry in rain you need a rain shell/hard shell not a soft shell. A great compromise is the new KUIU Axis which as hard shell material in the hood and shoulders(the parts most subjected to the rain). I have used it for 30 min- 1hr in rain with no problem but it would eventually wet out in the non hardshell part.

glad to hear u are taken care of, i wanted to quickly make the comment that u cant compare the jetstream to the seak - different style coats - softshell vs hardshell

u could always get an ultralight rain coat to have in ur bag, for aggressive rain and to protect ur softshell. the outdoor research helium 2 is pretty great and comes in a couple hunting friend colors, and can frequently be found on sale this time of year

If it rains you put on a light weight rain shell. Otherwise you have to expect to be wet. That being said I have an old 90% jacket and it keeps me dry in a misty rain. I just spent 6 days in Newfoundland with it and couldn't be happier with the performance.
