Jetboil Dremel job and Soto

If OliCamp made a 600mL type pot with that heat exchanger, I'd probably look seriously at that option.

Fire Maple makes a 800mL kettle and a 1.5L kettle with the heat exchanger bottom. All in Al so probably not much weight savings. Kettles are the bomb for basic water heating duties, but can't be used for much else.

Here are a few more photos of the Jetboil Ti cup cut down with some weights.

Weight of just the Jetboil Ti cup with a wrap of Gorilla tape around the top so I can pick it up with boiling water. 3.6oz

Weight of the Jetboil Ti cup with the jetboil cup on the bottom is 4.6oz.

Total weight of my cook kit (excluding fuel) is 6.6oz. I'll be adding that carbon lid, which will ad another 0.28oz to the kit.

I'm pretty happy with this setup and it packs down small. The next thing to do is compare the fuel comsumption rates against the stock Jetboil burner to see if there is an efficiency payback and after how many days it would be worth toting one over the other. Initial test with my cold well water (have not measured temp) and 63ºF ambient temperature is showing a fuel consumption between 8 to 11.5 grams, which would give me close to 10 days on a 110gr. fuel canister assuming similar conditions. I typically let my water warm up in the field to help cut that big delta though, so it's possible I might go a bit longer. I've heard and read about 24 1/2 Liter burns out of the stock jetboil burner, so that's about double the efficiency of the SOTO. However I do not know the variables used for that test. I have some testing to do though to find out the truly lightest setup to carry.

Damn, that is so light lol.. Can't wait till I get moved in to my new place and my Oli comes in so I can start playing around too..

Very cool stuff guys!!! I had a Sumo with the TI and the fins flaked off on the first trip. My aluminum Jetboilette that I used for 3 solid years and well over 250 days in the field with it boiling meals and what not for both Becca and I has yet to lose any of its fins at all. For that reason I opted to go back to the Aluminum Sumo.

Snowcamoman,

That is one lightweight setup for sure. Looks like it should work well for you. My Aluminum Sumo with a lid and neoprene sleeve is just under 10 oz alone so quite a bit heavier than your 4.8 oz cup with lid and bottom protector. I'm actually upgrading to the larger 4 armed pot support for my SUMO to give it a bit more stability. I like the idea to be able to use the jetboil stoves if needed as well as protect the fins with the housing that comes on the bottom of the jetboil as it gives it more than enough protection in my experience with them. That certainly seem like a lightweight efficient little setup man! Congrats on the mod. I'm to the point now where function for my uses trumps weight savings for things and being able to boil 48 oz of water in less than 5 minutes all at the same time is what steered me toward the SUMO, but for your uses your little setup looks perfect.
