Saw this coming soon on kickstarter, figured there might be some folks interested. The Coastal Range Backpacker

8.5oz is the claimed weight with a 1.2L capacity

I like to carry a super lightweight method of boiling water when out for the day in the mountains. The type doesn't matter a lot because it is intended to get me through only one or two nights. Perhaps the stove system featured here is a good option. BUT I also prefer the "short use", potential unplanned bivy pot to be suitable to place in a fire or on coals. It doesn't look like that pot meets the fire-proof requirement for ME in relation to the "lightweight system" to "be carried when daytime boiling is desired or planned or unplanned short overnight situations" may be encountered. Maybe the insulated cover can just be removed?

For extended use I prefer the MSR variants Windburner and Reactor (they are different and have different use cases and different risks). I prefer the MSR variants becuase they actually save weight vs. JetBoil in real life mountain situtations that last more than a brief period because those MSR stoves are much more fuel efficient than the JetBoil in the wind. And it is usually windy in the mountains. And in "stress" scenarios it is often windy. I also appreciate the qualitative factor of boilding a pint or so of water in about 3 minutes or less.

Some folks in Rokslide are of the opinion that the JetBoil is superior because in controlled situations it boils water faster. If that is the result of their tests then it must be true. But to me the question is not "which stove boils in 3 minutes rather than 4 minutes". It is which is more efficient in real life mountain conditions for a week....

I like the all metal mini Butane stoves over the plastic jetboils.

My 20 year old version folds and fits in the palm of your hand.

Edit for a spelling error and this; No way I take a plastic stove into the backcountry. I've personally seen 3 Jetboils melt parts on trips.

Jeez not at that price. If you are going to compete you have to offer more or beat the price.

Been very happy with my msr pocket rocket deluxe with petrel pot and jetboil zip cozy and lid.

Yeah the jetboil is kind of dated and overrated in my experience. This new thing saves a couple ounces, but costs even more. I could see it pulling a bit of jet boil business away. Some customers do like the all inclusive aspect of this type of package.

But…The Soto and Ti pots mentioned above can cut the weight in less than half, and cost half as much!

Yeah, it looks like the pre-order is like $99 which isn’t bad all things considered

Soto amicus with a cheap fire maple pot with the heat exchanger fins on it. Cut the bottom so the stove fits between the fins. Might weigh 10.3 ounces but it’ll make two hot breakfasts, two peak dinners and 4 coffees a day for five days on a 100g canister. Haven’t been into the deep end on stoves at all🙃
