This thread is an excellent example of why this website is the best on the internet for hunters IMO. Also, great to see the class exemplified on social media by everyone in the hunting industry.

RIP Jason - prayers to his family, friends, and staff.

So tragic, my heart goes out to his family & friends.

I too have never bought a KUIU product but felt the urge to order up a t-shirt this morning.

If you are the "gear junky" type like most of us here, Jason had a positive impact on your life.

RIP

And then there's our screwed up legal system that punishes people for talking to their doctors about suicidal ideation. The sad fact is there is the very real chance of losing civil rights for bringing up these issues to a health provider, that is NOT the way to go about helping people in this situation.

100% agree!

I'm hoping the rumors of suicide are untrue. I wish the best to his family and kids.

I played professional hockey into my early 20's. I had 4 diagnosed concussions in that time and several more that were not. Stories of these with those who have had known symptoms of CTE make me take a closer look at my own behavior. Luckily, I have not shown all the signs, but my memory is not what it was. I'm really hoping I don't put my loved ones through something like this in the future.

I've been with KUIU since the start. Pretty sure I was the first Arkansas customer. I always thought he was a visionary, and he was. This is a heavy blow to the hunting industry, but not near as impactful as it will be to his loved ones.

I'm in disbelief that this happened. I have a fee tags again this year and will wearing the KUIU this year will take on a different meaning.

Prayers for his family.
RIP.
Thank you, Jason.

I still am in awe about This fo a few reasons. 1.) had the chance to actually hit up the store in Dixon about 2 weeks ago while on a work trip, and met Jason he was very approachable. While i was just a hunter looking at clothing in a store to know the person who passed and to respect what he has done for our sport has a impact. 2.) he has impacted us all even if we have never owned one of his KUIU Products. His vision with Sitka raised the tide for so many companies, he creation of KUIU, making more competition, his direct to consumer approach that has influenced First Lite and Maven to help make tools that fuel our passions.

He was a true influencer but most importantly a person with a family like the rest of us. May his family know we have them in their thoughts

RIP Jason! Lots of folks put on smiles everyday! They work hard to hide the pain so as not to affect those around them...Having never met Jason personally I am a fan! Much respect Jason! You will be missed!

New message on the kuiu site :

We are saddened to announce the tragic passing of KUIU founder Jason Hairston. The family has requested that donations be made to support CTE-related research at the Boston University Concussion Legacy Foundation in lieu of sending flowers.

Never met the man but this guy from Florida was completely mesmerized from the pictures and story’s of his hunts.

He opened my eyes to going North

Thoughts and prayers for his family especially those 2 kids.

Following Jason on instagram he lived a very nice life and really loved his family. Looking at other football players who have had CTE and took their owns lives is increasing. Whether it be Junior Seau, Aaron hernadez, Ken Stabler and now Jason. It's terrible to think about the pain he was going through. Its amazing to see everyone come together and appreciate all he has done for the industry. He is now at peace and I pray that his family can find peace in the future.

To me it makes no difference how he passed, because it doesn't really matter for the family. The fact is, he is gone.

It does matter to the family. Suicide is a very tough type of death for families to deal with. Close family members will often have guilt thinking they could have done something to prevent it. My guess is there are years of therapy ahead for his family, especially his little boy who just went on a hunt with him.

Very sad.

With the release of the cod, I only know to continue to pray for the family, and wear a Kuiu shirt to work tomorrow. Very sad.

This is so heartbreaking. I've watched enough videos and listened to enough interviews of Jason that i sorta felt like I knew him a little bit. He seemed like a great guy and sure seemed to be living a dream life. Rest easy Jason.
