Its not moronic to ask that. The fact that suicidal ideations can over come our instinctual will to live and survive is thankfully a foriegn response for most individuals.
It doenst help to be dismissive on either end of this.

and if it is true, it's confusing and troubling to see this happen with a man with two beautiful kids, a dream company (seemingly), out doing what he loves. No matter what happened, it's very very sad and I feel for his family left behind. I will be praying for them.

To me it makes no difference how he passed, because it doesn't really matter for the family. The fact is, he is gone. I am very sad for his family and pray that they get the strength to make it through the rough times ahead.

I followed Kuiu from the start and always thought it was a cool way to start a company.

No matter how it plays out, death is usually tragic and more so when young children are left behind. Hold your loved ones tighter today and be thankful you can.

Man, what a shame. Can't even imagine what goes on in a person's mind to consider this as an option, but I wont judge. I pray for peace for his family. RIP

It's a painfully won insight unfortunately...

I understand either side of it though... most people can't understand it so there's nothing wrong with legitimately trying to understand but when it's done dismissively or insultingly then it's no bueno.

I'm still trying to process this the next day. I thought someone must have hacked into Kuiu's Facebook account when I saw it! I immediately checked Rokslide and it turned out to be true. I was truly dumbfounded and in shock that someone, in my eyes, that had everything a western hunter could have possibly committed suicide. I think it may show that outside appearance isn't everything and no one really knows what goes on in everyone's personal lives. Every time I put on or see something Kuiu this will cross my mind. This next weekend while hunting muzzle-loader in CO my brother, who will be with me, will be wearing all Vias. It is going to take a very disciplined mind to not think of Jason every time I see that pattern this weekend. I'm saddened and dismayed for his family, friends, and the hunting community. Rest in peace Jason.

Ex-NFL player thinks you're getting ripped off and wants to fix it

"I played linebacker, and the way I played the game, I led with my head. I played the way they tell us not to play now," he said. "I have all the symptoms of CTE."

Hairston said he has been very proactive about dealing with his symptoms by cooperating with multiple studies on the disease across the country.

--------------

Common symptoms of CTE:

Suicidal thoughts
Forgetting names, people, things (like dementia)
Uncontrollable rage
Irritability
Refusal to eat or talk
Sufferers and their families have described them turning into 'ghosts'.

-----------------

RIP

RIP Jason. Even though I did not like how you handled some things I truly respect what you have done for the hunting community. Prayers for you, your family and friends. May you hunt every day now.

Such a sad situation. With the comments towards CTE, I'd like to hear what the NFL will say.

He forever changed the hunting/clothing industry... and for the better.

We've all benefited in one way or another from Jason's passion.

RIP, brother!

"Chose" may not be the best way to describe it. The closer you are to these things, the more you begin to try to understand and empathize. I can assure you there is someone in this thread who has at least "considered" suicide and if they were to openly speak about it I bet you'd find it was nothing like "I don't want to live any more, I'm going to kill myself." The state a person is in under these circumstances often isn't "them" in my opinion. Save for those circumstances where a person has a terminal illness and makes the conscious decision to not die a slow and agonizing prolonged death, the mental state a person is in at these times is something hard for a "normal" person to understand. And that's why we/those "normal" people often indeed don't understand.

The hunting community and his family suffered a loss. Don't miss opportunities to love your loved ones.

Well said. I've suffered from anxiety and depression since my early teens. It's rampant on both sides of my family, most notably my grandmother who suffered from bi-polar disorder. While I never "contemplated" or "thought" of a way I out, I have been down more than a few dark rabbit holes in my life. I can say from my own personal experiences that I wouldn't wish what I've experienced on anyone. It's hell. It affects your wife, kids, friends, coworkers, etc. There's no magical pill one can take to jump out either. Episodes can last weeks.

For the most part, all the threads I've read regarding Jason have been sincere, minus one that only took a handful of posts before an extremely ignorant comment was posted. Mental illness should not be a stigma. If you need help, seek it out. Talk to someone. Anyone.

Such crummy news. A true innovator. I had the chance to head out to Kuiu in Dixon a few times. Never got to meet Jason personally. However, his events were always fun and educational. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

The comments section on this is truely discusting. Pretty sad world we live in.

agreed
I read thru a few of them. Disgusting. Our country is so messed up. Ton's of hate, division and just mentally skewed people who aren't afraid to voice their hate and open ugliness.

edit- not the rokslide posts but the posts from another website link. The posts here on RS have been very respectful

Don’t bother with the daily mail article.

First off, they said he “slaughtered” the sheep, and they also said they were big horns from his most recent trip instead of Dall. They also compared Jason to Aaron Hernandez!! Seriously?! They couldn’t think of any other CTE case?

I was disgusted with the article and then I got to the comment section. Don’t waste your time. They do nothing but try and paint him In a different light.
