Moving this convo to a new thread:

I'm not a fan of hoods unless it's really cold or really raining, but all of my favorite jackets (incl my Helly Hansen raingear) have hoods that are removable or roll up into the collar.

What recommendations do you have for jackets with roll-up (or otherwise detachable) hoods?

Detachable hoods will be your mainstay these days, but most will require the jacket being removed to attach the hood when desired.

The kuiu proximty LT has a removable hood.
The sitka stratus has a removable hood.
The first lite phase has a removeable hood.

Of those three, the proximity LT is by far the most water resistant, but also least breathable.

There are likely a slew of insulated jackets with removable hoods as well. A quick look shows quote a few. But i do not have any hands on with any as most of my hunting is in uninsulated jackets and i layer under.

Filson made a great jacket that works as you describe - it was discontinued, but you might be able to find one. It was called the Reliance Jacket. The rolled up hood does make the neck a little bulky, but the jacket was very underrated—more durable than most waterproof jackets, but offered more stretch than most rain jackets.
