My bro wants a better rifle. He’s just got a .270 with a 3x9 which he’s been quite successful with but he’s cashing in big points and want to make the best of any opportunity.

He’s the polar opposite of me in a lot of ways. He’s not a tinkerer. He’s not a detail guy or technically inclined at all. He doesn’t want to build something, he doesn’t want to analyze details. He’s a grip it and rip it kind of guy. Needs a package gun, but also doesn’t want to spend $5-6k.

Has anyone bought a Tikka with a Proof prefit and Mesa stock from JA Outdoors? Good, Bad?

He’s very active on LRH. Seems like a good dude. Can he just put a prefit on his current rifle? Not much tinkering required and if he has a prefit friendly rifle it’d be cheaper.

He doesn’t. It’s an older wood stocked Sako 75.

The mesa is the worst stock you can buy for a tikka when it comes to recoil control.

For that reason I’d suggest elsewhere.
I was wondering about that. The shape looks like it could be prone to excess flippage.

Wes knows Tikkas and his products…He is a good person to do business with. I am sure he would deliver a good shooter. The Mesa stock and proof pre-fit were all the “rage” here on the Rok just a few years ago….LOL. I have never been a fan of carbon fiber barrels or Mesa stocks. A really good deal I think, is a 7 REM MAG in a Tikka RoughTech Ember Stainless. If he doesn’t like the Ember stock he could get a RokStock. Whoever mounts the scope for him could switch out the stock…it’s a piece of cake. I think he would be getting a good rifle either way…

Lots of great rifles floating around in the classifieds ready to go.

I’ve had no issues ordering components through them and have no experience with their complete rifles. Usually fast shipping unless there is a component delay

Tikkas are great! That being said... see below.

We *used* to do a lot of business with Wes at J&A... He was a good reseller of a lot of our rails.

After he completely ripped off our 5 most popular rails, and one of the Pro muzzle brakes, we broke ties with him. At some point we're sure he was listing our products then selling his knock offs using our name. I even have emails showing that one of his customers ordered an SRS hunters rail and received one of his knock offs.

We're not here to bash people... But with him I make an exception.

He has a bunch of barreled actions. Drop it in a stockys and you’re in good shape. Or find a deal on a rifle on RS. Some good ones pop up.

I should have mentioned, he wants a 7prc, which limits the factory options.

UM doesn’t appear have one in stock and waiting months on a build isn’t an option at this point.

I've never done business with them but personally, I have an issue paying more for an oem action than the whole rifle costs. My idea of a tikka is a more budget build that performs as well as more expensive "custom" stuff. However, with that budget, I think you get way more for your money by going with a custom action and building it up from there. You could do that and still come in around the same price and pick every single thing you want.

If one of you has a barrel vise and action wrench you're there. You might need to bed it depending on the stock you get but that's not hard either.

Just my opinion. If you want a factory rifle, I'd look really hard at a seekins and the proof with the zermatt action also interests me.
