I was thinking about throwing an outter layer in Realtree AP in my pack along with a hat in case I end up still hunting through timber in the Wasatch Front for mule deer, all my other clothing is max-1. Not sure what the weight penalty would be...but I feel like the GIF is sitting on my shoulder whispering in my ear.

I wouldn't bother. Your Max-1 should do fine in timber too.

I used for several years a pack in MAX-1 and did just fine in Utah. Interestingly my brother had the same pack in the old Hardwoods Gray. Which looks similar to AP. We did some testing and several different environments in Utah and both worked well.
