Orange aglow vests are stupid light and fairly cheap. $20. It’s mesh so it breathes well. Love mine for both hot and cold weather.

Not sure if they change the dye process, but I've used my BD Alpine Start jacket hunting a bunch

I have one and have used it for years, but I’m getting increasingly annoyed of the hassle of dealing with a bino harness + a vest evetytine I want to add or remove a layer. There was a post on here once where some guys got reprimanded for taking their Orange vests off to change layers in the field. Especially when it’s hot out, I just want a streamlined baselayer that is legal. Looking to boot the vest more to puffy and rain jacket duty.

If you just want a super lightweight non-encumbering blaze orange outer garment to be legal for warm weather........I found this shirt at a thrift store brand new with original tags for $2. Orange poly polo. Brand is Grand Slam Performance and I've seen them on Ebay. Then you can wear whatever you want under it.

Little more of a red hue when placed next to a blaze orange color. Hmm. Unmistakably visible, though.

Just picked up one myself on sale. Going to try it for second rifle.

I feel pretty good about it. I have 3 other of these same hoodies: offwhite, light blue and green. The light blue has definitely sun bleached a bit and the green as well. I spend a lot of time in the high country in the summer and I also wear these spring skiing so pretty intense exposure. I imagine a little sun fading will mellow the red hue a bit closer to orange.

Side note, this is a really good color for backcountry skiing as it’s so visible. I tend to wear a lot of earth tones by default which aren’t so awesome if a partner is trying to keep eyes on you in the timber or scanning an avalanche debris field for any sign of you….

Side note #2: attention hunting brands: we need blaze orange sun hoodies and lightweight merino baselayers.

I had a few hats made for a Colorado trip that were listed as blaze orange by the manufacturer.
We had interactions with two different game officers. The first one told us our hats were not blaze enough. She was kind about it but still just said to not wear them after that days hunt.

The second guy was after we tagged out. We did not have them on however did ask him out of curiosity, he echoed the sentiment that they were not orange enough, however that's something that is debatable in the field.

Maybe Black Diamond should name that color flaming red.

Unless extremely faded or just plain ole completely off...would see it hard to get a ticket for wearing "bright" orange and not "blaze" orange considering dye lots, different fabrics etc. I usually have a new Blaze orange hat almost every year just because I lost them. give them to someone that forgets opening deer hunting etc. I have a vest that maybe was blaze orange in 1990 when I got it and it hung down to my shins as a 5 year old. Thing is yellowish orange at this point and between MN, WI, ND, MT and multiple interactions with DNR or Fish and Game never once had the vest mentioned.

To me that hat looks faded and maybe at one time was blaze but is no longer. I have hats that look similar after a couple years of use and never once had DNR or G&F question it. Almost no way they would question that shirt in my experience. Now the tricky part is is that why they would stop you or did you also not sign your license, correctly tag game, drive off trail, etc. Then they might get into 'Blaze' definitions etc.

"reduces barriers to access"

😆

Send me a picture of an access barrier.
