Yeah this just screams hunter recruitment and retainment. Need more YouTube videos and Insta hunters. Just remember everybody they’re doing us a favor.

Yeah the ultra rich have done a great job convincing people and agencies that without the auction tags and special opportunities for them that wildlife conservation would suffer. They have weaseled their way in and built a model for themselves to have way more opportunity than the common man. At the end of the day it’s about filling a trophy room and bragging amongst themselves not conservation
While not fair nothing in life really is if those tags are taken away where does the lost revenue come from?

To me there wasn’t a single ethical approach taken to harvest that animal. Bad shots happen occasionally and I get it but I can’t help but feel from watching that video that the shooter has probably never shot anything other than a couple hundred yards with his rifle on a bench in a lead sled prepping for that hunt. That is a hard video to watch and maybe I’m wrong but to me it was a chasing of horns and horns only with little to absolute zero respect for the animal whatsoever. The “gunfight” comment was the absolute most d bag thing anyone could say and I can’t believe they put this out to the public. It should be used as a “what not to do” lesson in every Hunter Safety course moving forward. And we wonder why hunters get a bad rap by so many so often.

Were the tags ever needed in the first place? Those that buy auction tags are the ones always pushing for more of them and saying there is this supposed need for them as a funding source. License sales, PR and DJ dollars going to agencies are going up like crazy lately. The money isalready there. Look at the kuiu conservation direct projects, actually doing on the ground work, raising money and not killing a single critter to put in some guys pile of heads

Full disclosure, I haven't watched the video. But whatever good the additional revenue from that tag might have brought in, the ill will and anti-hunter sentiment it will engender will more than offset the benefit.

Those with resources shouldn't be given a pass for blatantly unethical behavior.

The one tag they sell in south dakota generates more revenue for sheep than all other sales combined. It goes 100% to the big horn sheep. I dont know other states but with out that our sheep would not stay around. $561,000.00 for sheep the last 2 years i would say is a fair trade off .

This is a bad look on a overall decent company. I can’t imagine this is what they planned to produce.

Saw the video a while ago...call me crazy but if I was the second dude I would have smoked that first ram the second that guys gun went empty. Hahaha
Now that would have made for good tv! I can’t even begin to imagine the look on everyone’s face! But let’s be honest, he couldn’t fall out of a boat and hit water either.

Be interested to know if they hand any inked arrangement on that or it was just spoken. They even showed before the hunt started they each already had "their" rams allocated. Would be pretty hilarious to shoot a 200"+ ram out from under a $175k governor's tag holder with outfitter preference after they flubbed the shot.

Seriously. I certainly can't say that I would've made any of those shots. I can say that I have 0% interest in ever having a group of dudes pulling on my shirt, spinning me around, pointing out when and where to shoot, telling me where to run, and that sort of thing. One of the major attractions of hunting is the freedom, do what you want to do, when you want to do it, on your terms. What a nightmare.

The Governors tags are always interesting. When we had a top grade trophy elk heard here in S.E. Washington we had to content with the high dollar tag holders. I knew a couple of the GW's in this area and they were always having to investigate them because of their antics when it came to (Murdering) hunting trophy bulls. From flying into the area the same day to shoot his bull, to using a helicopter to locate and have land 1000 yards from said bull and walk in and shoot the bull.

The administration would tell the GW's to take the report but nothing else. I know in one case the Gov. tag holder would not meet with the GW because he had another bull in NM that he had to get to because they had it setup to shoot. We had one that had hired an out of state high profile guide service to come up here and spend the summer looking for a particular bull the game dept had videoed as a fluff piece to sell the Gov tag with. Once found they sat on it, chasing everyone else off as to not spook the bull.

Luckily the game dept has allowed the wolves to decimate our once proud herds so we don't have to worry about the Gov tag holders anymore

Haven't watched it yet. I'll try to keep an open mind.

-I've made it :06 in so far. At the :03 mark douchey shot of some ostrich cowboy boots. Not looking good.

Such a sad end to an impressive specimen. Horrible look for hunters.

I can’t help but think that the average joe that draws this type of tag would have taken a shot he was capable of making. He applied for years, probably decades, with little no hope of drawing. Spent weeks in utter disbelief that he did in fact draw the tag. Then spent many more months preparing for his once in a lifetime opportunity.

Sad.

This is probably a dumb question but why was the guy who drew the tag hunting with the guy who bought the governor's tag? Did they independently arrive at the same outfitter? Did the outfitter give the draw guy a free hunt for publicity? I would imagine that outfitter is pretty pricey for the guy who drew.

Either way I agree with the comments, surprised it actually made it to the public. At the very least they showed what really happened
