I would second the cross training advice. Some folks can train on the same few exercises for years, but I never can. Get outside in the spring and early summer, join a racquetball club, whatever is your cup of tea. Three weeks out from your hunt, throw on the heavier pack, hop on the treadmill at 4pmh and 6% incline, and get down to brass tax. I wouldn't waste six months training for a hunt in the gym when basic fitness can be attained across genres.
