So who else is struggling at this point in the year to focus on anything but this coming elk season. I got bit by the elk bug 4 years ago and every year that I’m fortunate to get a tag I just struggle to focus on anything else! I know it’s only April, but man I wish tomorrow was September!!!! Here’s to a fast spring/summer

Works just too busy starting about three weeks ago through the rest of the summer.... i'll basically wake up from work and it'll be elk season.... staying busy passes time pretty dang quick.

glad your excited for elk hunting though, my brother has the bug now too that he has a good tag, he's been at the archery range every day..... good for him, hopefully he doesnt miss haha

my last private land elk hunt was 2020 and he's been booked solid ever since. finally got a spot (incl for my brother) this november (rifle) and we're super-excited!

Was focused on a high country, early archery CO mule deer tag. The daily thoughts were consumed by that.....gear, planning scouting trips, map study, etc. Then last week I somehow drew a killer NM elk tag that I certainly didn't expect. That deer tag is now out the window. All-in on the elk tag. Sept 15th can't come soon enough.

Normally, I don't start obsessing over it until later in the year, but this year I'm already totally obsessed. Maybe it has to do with the fact that this is the first time I put in for limited tags vs. just buying OTC tags?

Hold your horses on wishing for a fast spring/summer, I'm definitely excited, but man I know how the spring summer can fly by, lots of prep to get everything squared away before heading out west! September will be here before you know it!

Im not in any rush yet. I generally spend Jan through May on the road for work nearly full time, then summer quits down a bit and I get some time to fish, hike etc and finish getting work stuff squared up to cut out all travel and spend late sept through late nov focused on hunting. If September was here tomorrow I would have to mostly miss hunting anyway, and if anything I am excited to chase muskie for a bit. Im sure by early August I will be sick of heat and getting into fall fever.

I may be moose hunting this fall, and if so, the elk will be way down on the priority list. Archery moose should be epic.

We're wrapping up a long Idaho winter (still 30" of snow at our cabin). I am going to enjoy turkey and bear hunting and some hiking and fishing; summer goes way too fast to rush it.

A lot of us still are over carrying our winter weight and haven’t started pack training yet…. Gonna need a few months of getting ready before I dive off the grid miles from the truck for 2 weeks. Plus some of us are still tag-less.

I am struggling to stay focused at work. Drew a bull tag this year. I am either looking at 3d topos or looking at gear while I am at work. Already got the stink eye from the wife for talk about elk at the dinner table.

Glad I’m not the only one

I was itching to get out bear hunting and will be doing that for the next two months, then it will be about time to catch walleyes and then elk hunting.

The first time I drew a great tag. I was all in from the moment results came out. Everyday was focused on making slight improvements to something.

Time came, and I was as dialed as I could be.

Tagged out on day 2 of the hunt.
Amazing experience.

But about a week later.

It felt a little empty.
I was so focused on that moment. That once it had passed. I felt I let the spring and summer slip past without enjoying the smaller things. Jakko said it well. It's not about finally pushing the rock up the hill. It's about the process of getting it there.

So now I take a more even keeled approach.

Take everything as it comes. And try to enjoy it all.

I waited as long as I could before packing my bugle with me to and from work... started bringing it in February. Just went and set some trail cams out a few days ago. Started practicing shooting the bow. Now the snow is gone it's time for hiking and scouting new areas!

I never really stop thinking about September, but I need to pull a tag soon so I get motivation to get in elk shape and start shooting. Otherwise I’m just going to have to rely on good old fashioned discipline to make it happen lol. A promising tag in my pocket is strong medicine
