Is it best to verify bullet drop at 100 yard increments or is 600 yards good enough?

Thanks for all the input. I shot a 5 round group at 500 yards not accounting for wind. I think I’ll leave the ballistic data alone. Biggest spread was 4.4”

zero at 100 verify/true at distance , 600 or whatever. This is fine out to well past 600. No need to shoot every 100 and build dope.

Folks that have meaningful midrange trajectory errors are either putting bad info into their ballistics program, or they are not shooting enough rounds to get a good zero and 600 yd confirmation. Chasing their tail.

10 rounds min IMO.

After you get it trued, then bust rocks/steel, whatever at various distances

To define your trajectory you need BC, velocity and for simplicity, groups at two different ranges with at least one of them falling on crosshair zero elevation. Obviously the ranges you choose would be different for a 6arc, and 44 magnum rifle.

Groups at three ranges will help you confirm or correct your theoretical BC from the bullet maker.

That gets you a pretty good rough start until temperature, air density and other factors become significant. It starts to get interesting beyond 400 yards.
