I think more people are hunting western states due to social media and tv. I don’t think that equates to more archers overall.

Booming in my area it seems. If anything is hurting it I’d say main causes are costs and crossbows. Just having a really good shop or two in an area can do a ton for participation

Judging by the amount of bowhunters I've seen in the woods over the past few years, I'd argue archery is very much alive and well.

Kinda.

Local archery sports are dieing off, while participation in national level events is increasing.

Archery hunting seems to be booming by tag sales.

I'd say, it's the economy. As much doom and gloom as you wanna say about it, a lot aren't thinking much of dropping several K on out of state hunts. 20 years ago, that wasn't happening nearly as much, even if you want to factor inflation.

More socially acceptable? More info? More disposable income? More sicail media exposure making it seem doable?

I'd say all the above.

I shoot quite a bit of indoor spots and have noticed at my local club the spot and 3D weekly leagues have less attendance. 5 or 6 years ago a weekly Sunday Vegas or Five Spot league may have 20 plus shooters, this year 3-5 seems to be the norm.
I don’t think I notice a decrease in archery hunters though.

Local league use to be 2 nights because of the number of shooters. Now, it's hard to fill out a few teams.

Local 3d shoots would have 75-100 shooters every weekend, now, it's 20-25.

Seems to be everywhere. Personally, I think kids sports has gotten way more serious, takes more time. Gotta try to get the little ones a scholarship so they can get a fake degree.

I'm not one to talk, I waste a bunch of time on the sport of archery.

There was a big bump in archery starting with those Hunger Games movies and it got another bump with the big game hunting craze that started a couple years before the pandemic. A lot of shops opened in that time frame. I'm guessing that yes interest in archery has shrunk a little outside of the hunting community and the fat is being trimmed in regards to too many shops in some areas.

Haven't been anxiously engaged the last 5 years or so, but in my hometown the local brick and mortar shop is alive and well.

The only big box is Sportsman's and they've always been kind of shoddy, but worse now than ever on bows. I do believe that's because the local shop is hands down better at bow "stuff" in general.

They do sell a lot of accessories though.

I get itchy when folks say education bad. Im a geologist in the engineering field.

If i was king there would be no scholastic sports. Just STEM type stuff. We need more educated folks instead of importing them cause out folks are too flipping lazy to do the work.

My saying a worthless degree is in them being pushed through, needing to fly out in the evening to play tomorrow, etc.

I think a whole bunch of degrees aren't worthless, but the higher education system has become a money making game. Many are coming out with what you would say isn't value added.

I have some friends that got very good educations on scholarships, but it was a long time ago, unfortunately I think very few are getting much for their scholarships anymore.

10-4!

Folks are letting their kids down by pushing sports. Teamwork can be taught in other ways.

Sorry, it is a trigger. We do need plumbers electricians and such but we also need scientists drs etc. and garbage men too. Big balancing act for mankind.

I'm one of the lazy ones.

Got a mechanical engineering degree 20 years ago, went to work for myself and haven't looked back.

Didn't want to hafta think that hard, is what I told myself.

Doesn't seem as bad now that my body is wearing out, but don't think I can handle the environment.

I think the scholarship idea is only to offset the insane cost of college. Having kids in sports though, I would say it's just an idea. High level sports cost more than you would be saving in a lot of scenarios.

Seems like the shops around me are closing up and the weekend 3d shoots are disappearing. Is archery dying?

Causes?
Crossbow?
Generational changes?
Something else?

Amazon / online suppliers and people doing their own bow work/ features on bows to tune without press… lots of factors

I wish it looked like archery was dying on opening day of archery elk😉
