Is anyone else burning extra points on a General tag in Wyoming?

I have 4 elk preference points in Wyoming. I don't seem to be gaining any ground on drawing the 2-3 units I was hoping to eventually draw. I decided to cut my losses and apply for a General tag, even though I only need 1-2 points to do it. At 49 years old I am too old to think I am going to be able to draw some of these units more than once, so I am just going to draw a tag and go hunting. Anyone else in the same situation?

nope.
I realize which hunts I will never draw and move to others that I will. If I was wanting to burn 4 points however, I'd burn them on a Gen tag over a draw unit at that level.

Yes but I was never really chasing other units. Just had other states to hunt.
I'm splitting them with a buddy that has no points this year so not really wasted.

Are the general tags good for archery and rifle?

Yes.
I'm burning a bunch of points on a gen. tag this year. After trying to draw a couple areas, point creep is killing me, and seeing buddies killing giants in a general area, I'm done waiting, going hunting this year.

I have been hunting other state too. I have to get tag or buy another point this year or I will loose my points since I didn't buy a point in 2016. I guess if I could find a hunting partner that wanted to go I could share my points with them, but that hasn't been easy for find someone either

Your way too close to a few good tags, I would do more research before I dumped them on a General tag. The general tags just ain't what they used to be in Wyoming imho, unless you can get a resident to take you in the wilderness areas.

Do guys just stay home if you don't draw a bull tag?
What's wrong with cow hunting the same unit with a second choice.

The reason I asked about cow hunting is that it USUALLY provides me with meat for the freezer and some valuable boots on the ground experience in the unit so when I do (hopefully) draw the bull tag I have got my scouting done which is usually lacking for non-residents. Another benefit is a cow tag will guarantee some terrific bull encounters.:)

@ LostArra

Cow hunting is a great way to learn the terrain and what the bulls are doing.
Plus you get to hunt the 2 weeks prior to the GEN rifle season

This year I hope to draw my Wyoming GEN tag, but if I dont I will draw my Reduced Cow/calf tag [or I may draw both!]
This will be my 3rd year in a row hunting Wyoming

Add that into my 2 Colorado elk tags, and that should be a fun fall 2017

I'm in the same boat. Have 4 points for both elk and deer.

Did my research a few months back trying to formulate a plan, and saw the futility of continuing to purchase PPs in hopes of a top unit. I'll be waiting 10-15 more years just to draw something mid-tier in the Bighorns. I can't go this year so I am going to do WY GEN in 2018 with the 4 points along with a buddy that will have 3.

Wish I never would have given a dime to WY, between the non-resident wilderness law and being on the forefront of the land grab movement, that state is high on my shit list.
