Is 60# compound bow enough for elk?

You’re arrow setup and broadhead choice are gonna be a big part of the effectiveness. Annihilator broadheads are worth checking out due to the hole it creates.

The late Shari Fraker killed 24 good bulls with a 50 lb round wheel compound. So, 60 lbs on a modern bow should do just fine.

Looking to bow hunt elk this next season and I'm curious if my setup is capable to taking an elk efficiently. I'm shooting a Hoyt Powermax bow at 60# and 27.5in draw length with 340 spine Easton axis arrows cut at 27.25 Inches long with a 75 grain insert. Total arrow weight is 460gn FOC is 16%
I think what you are shooting is okay for elk. I have killed several elk at 40lbs using 525 grn arrows and 125 grn Shuttle-T broadheads. Definitely want high FOC. I prefer arrow weight over speed for good penitration.

Yes, just for the love of god please don't use a mechanical broadhead.
