I'm hoping that I might have enough points (3) to apply in Iowa this year. I knows zone 5 takes 4, so looking at other zones and trying to figure the odds of drawing. For example, in zone 4 there were 246 people that drew with 3 points. But there were 422 applicants that didn't draw, however I'm not seeing any breakdown of the unsuccessful applicants point totals. Of those 422, I'm sure there were some with 3 points, and others with less.
Is there any way to know what the draw odds with 3 points were?

I'm also looking at zones 6 & 9, but don't have anything lined up yet. Would love to find a good private lease if we can.

My brother and I both drew zone 5 this past year with 4 pts and our buddy drew the same tag with 3 pts. Zone 9 can be drawn with 2 pts

I did see that 24 people drew zone 5 with only 3 points So yeah, it's possible. But not very likely I'm guessing, thus our focus on other zones. Zone 5 attracts a lot of attention, but I also know there is some great hunting in other zones as well.
Zone 9 looks like it would be a guaranteed tag. 4 & 6 are the ones I'm not sure about.

You won't draw in zone 9 with 2 points. 3 most likely 4. I hunted there 3yrs ago. Didn't draw last year.

2 guys I know from around here drew zone 9 tags with 2 points, just have to be lucky I guess. After looking at the draw odds your best bet is 4, 6, or 9

We talked to a guide at the hotel one night and he was saying its going to get harder to draw again due to guys hanging on to points due to EHD, hopefully that's not the case

EHD is another thing I want to look at and try to figure out which areas had significant die offs. Early reports I had seen made it look to be concentrated South of Des Moines butt haven't been able to find much since early last fall.

We mainly heard about it in 3 counties south of des Moines in zone 5. From what we heard it was in isolated pockets, we never found or smelled anything on public and we covered a lot of ground while scouting and hunting.

Zone 6 will take 4 to be a guaranteed. 3 points its possible. Assuming your looking at archery tag. I have hunted 4, 5,6 and 7. All have good deer.
