Just got it in yesterday. Wasn't too thrilled to be honest, but I'll take it one step at a time. Need to fiddle with the triggers and see if they are actually adjustable.

I don't know why, but lately I've had a hankering for doing a hawken or KY long rifle kit build. It's winter and I guess I need a project.

Good project. I think kits like this are harder than a build from scratch. Seems I spend more time fixing incorrect fit and inlets.

100% correct you are!

I won't get down over it. Just one of those deals where you don't know what you're getting till it comes in.

Some panel shaping today. I need to remove wood off the rear of the stock and partially into the wrist before I do any more with the lock panel.

I'm interested in where this goes!

I've always wanted to put a kit together and hunt with one here in MO's late primitive season. Any thoughts on a good first kit for someone to tackle? I'd be looking for a 50 cal, percussion.

Still working on the cheek piece, but I got it close to where I want it today.

Very cool, Is that the same BC walnut stain, just stripped on heavy? I've seen the diluted india ink version before.

Minwax stain pens, 2 coats of dark walnut, then 2 coats of ebony, gently wiped to blend it in.

Just a couple shots of the investarm Bridger Hawken 50cal I put together. Literally finished bluing the remaining 3 screws I had left and took a couple pics. Stock still needs waxed, but that will come this time next week.

Tru oil finish, brass hit with 320 grit sand paper and buffed with an 800 grit buffing pad for a nice brushed look. This will take on a very pretty yellow color as it starts to tarnish.

More to come

I’ve been looking at the Kentucky long kit for a while. Your kit looks great and really makes me want to do one of my own.
