Introducing my son to firearms

I don't think you're giving your kids enough credit. I started mine off at 5 shooting a deer out of the blind with me. Obviously he wasn't carrying his own rifle at the time but that got him into it. From there he got a BB gun which is a low risk, high reward type of training.

At 6 he got a rascal 22 with a red dot and we practiced with that off of a tripod because it was still a bit big for him. Ran it suppressed.

At 8 he got a 16" .223 and now I check it and confirm that it's clear and he totes it around. After a few years of the non-stop "look at your barrel" with a BB gun, he is now very aware of what he's doing and is a fantastic shot.

Don't short change them, they're more capable than you think.
