Which options exist for insurance and what are the limitations? I have read that several folks have "rider" policies on their homeowners but does this cover vehicle theft, base camp theft, damage etc?

Insurance is state regulated, so it's hard to tell exactly what options are available without consulting your insurance company, but you can most likely "schedule" your optics as personal property on your Homeowners policy. THe scheduled personal property policy will have specific details around what is covered and what is excluded from coverage depending on the type of loss. One thing to be sure of, if you don't have them scheduled as personal property and try to claim damage/theft/loss under your standard homeowners or auto policy, you will no doubt be extremely disappointed with the outcome of the claims process.

I use an "Inland Marine" rider to my homeowner's policy. I would check with your insurance agent to see what is available in your State and the coverage that this would afford or what other options would exist.

I use American Family Insurance for my homeowners policy with no additions - last year I had a Leica binocular stolen from the back of the truck (unlocked canopy door) on the way to hunting camp 500 miles from home and they covered them after deductible - I don't think insurance companies "like" to do this very often though ....... when I used to have farms I do remember my agent covering all the machinery and equipment with that "inland marine" clause though

think you can get a personal articles policy as well, but they can be expensive.

I appreciate the responses. My brothers house has been broken into twice in the last week. Luckily we were hunting so he had his most valuable possessions with us.
