Cabelas currently has a sale on the older style Inreach devices. The SE is showing original price of $300, and the Explorer shows it was $250 originally. Both units are on sale right now at $200.
In reading the descriptions it almost sounds like the Explorer was the more advanced model because it had navigation capabilities. Yet the original price was less?
Am I missing something? If I'm choosing between the two, which is the better deal?

I've been wanting one of these units and this sale might be the push I needed. Just not sure which one to get.

I'm not sure how long the sale on these units run, but the Cabelas website shows an after Christmas sale through Jan. 3., so I would assume that is the case for these?

I answered my own question on the differences between the two with a Google search. Here is a link to a good article:
Which one: Delorme inReach SE or Explorer? Differences + Recommendation

It seems that the original price listed on the Cabelas website may have been off from what these units were initially sold for. It sounds like there is no reason not to go with the Explorer since they are the same price. At least that's what I did - mine is on the way.

I believe the org price was $399 se and $449 Explorer, the nav function is very limited on the older explorer.

Thank Tim. I do understand the limitations of the older models, but I do think they will serve the purpose for what I am looking for. Combined with the Earthmate app for my phone I should be able to send and receive short simple text messages. That's all I need or want, I really wouldn't expect to use the navigation feature. But it could be a backup plan I suppose.
