If you have the Inreach with gps, can you use the gps without paying the monthly service for the messaging? Like as a stand alone gps and then only buy the messaging on a monthly basis?

With the Garmin version, it can be a standalone GPS. Although, there are better units. You can buy a month-to-month service plan for about 25%+ more than annual plans and there is an additional annual fee.
