I'd like to get our chessy a GPS dog collar. Just for around the yard. We have a few acres she can run around here. But I just don't know much about them. I know that we do not want a monthly subscription. And it has to be as durable as a Chessapeak. I'm thinking that an extra collar would be good so always have one charged.
Suggestions n comments appreciated, thanks

I use a garmin for hunting but found the antenna to be really annoying around the house. Garmin now came out with an LTE version that works off cell data with no annoying antenna, but I think it has a monthly charge. Something like $10 a month.

Most of the places we hunt do not have cell service so we run the tt15 minis from garmin.

I have a Fi with AT&T service on my Husky/malamute cross. Works great, turns out he doesn’t like to run so I haven’t used the lost dog mode, but it does send an alert if he leaves the yard. It’ll differentiate between someone is taking him on walk vs him escaping based on if the person has the app and Bluetooth connection to his collar. If that connection isn’t sensed or someone without the app takes him out of the geofence it’ll send an alert.

Also counts steps and sleep. Just got a great pyr pup who will have the same thing when she’s slightly bigger.

Whistle or FitBark. They are durable and suitable for an active dog.

I recently bought a HALO for our lab to like to adventure. Highly impressed with all functions of it and we no longer have a dog that wants to go visit the neighbors. It does have a $10 monthly subscription for LTE service.

Garmin is the best hands down but will cost you the most , dogtra could be a cheap alternative especially if you aren’t wanting to use the training buttons as the dogtra uses your phone

Thanks folks. Ruby reacts to a soft hand approach. And we will be using it for around the house. She is good at command so when taking her swimming n such she's ok. Till she sees water. She's in. Chessy. Her main job is watch dog. And that chessy trait to protect her family is strong. My biggest concern is other stray dogs that come on to the property. We raise meat rabbits. She's going to attack. But we also have grandkids so having her around is great. And we get moose n occasionally bear in the yard. So my concerns I guess.
My beautiful wife bought a system that has a burried wire yesterday at garage sale. Brand new in box. 35 bucks. I'll try it. But not sure how it's gonna work this winter under 4' of snow n ice.
It just bothers me to have her tied up or on a run. Kennel isn't big enough. She needs to run to stay fit. Thanks again

Garmin for gps. I have the alpha 100 but will upgrade to the 300 with my next dog

If the wire is thin yellow or green. Just throw it in the trash and order some 14ga wire off Amazon, and some landscape staples. Mow the grass super low. Put wire on the ground and use the staples to hold it down. Let the grass grow up and cut it tall a couple times and the tatch will pull in and cover the wire.
