There are unfortunate aspects of perception and psychology that drive a lot of government action. Wildlife officials spend a lot of time focused on recreational hunters when commercial fishing has far more adverse impact on fish populations And vehicle strikes, house cats and agriculture practices probably kill more furry and feathered critters than hunters do each year.

I see NY wants to shut down wood fired pizza ovens….while a huge portion of the US is blanketed in smoke from wildfires.

When are the governments going to realize the fallacy of these policies.

Fwiw, its estimated that the billions of tons of soot from the CA wildfires set the US emissions back decades.

Sure its difficult to put out some of these fires…but some of the out of control fires are a result of poor forest management.

Just a thought, but maybe focus on Forest management vs shutting down a few wood fired pizza places….
I've been saying same thing for years. Liberals are brainwashed into believing everything is climate change and caused by man. I guess their half right. Poor forest management is definitely cause by man.

Nothing conservative about the climate change stuff.

We have a bunch of idiots making regulations - when's the last time you tried to use a 5-gallon gas can? Thankfully aftermarket vents are available to make them pour without "glugging" all over the place.

Why are they idiots? The education system teaches a certain way and the powers that be - think the various forums that they have - global economy is one, environment is another. Al Gore Promised us rain bombs or whatever his deluded mind comes up with.

It was funny cause I posted some time back that once they were done going after natural gas and large appliances that they would shift to wood. You can't make this stuff up. Can you see a ban on matches in the future?

Believe it or not, where I live in Southern California has been doing controlled burns for the last 2 weeks on our mountain range. They've burned a substantial amount of the undergrowth and thickest areas on the mountain, which is great to see.

I've lived in the same area for 39 years and when I was a kid they did it all the time and rarely had a fire that was meaningful. Maybe someone is starting to get smarter with how things should be managed.

Finally it took years for the current politicos to disregard the environmentalists that want to leave everything, “ Natural” . There are hundreds of lawsuits by environmental groups in CA, shutting down the logging and clearing of forests which has helped create the out of control fires in CA.

Before the Paradise fire the local shut down proposals to clear trees and brush...then the whole place burned out of control.

Remember the hack environmentalists crying about the spotted owl that shut down a lot of logging and clearing on the west coast?

So you want the US government to manage Canadian forest?
Maybe instead of crying about government all day you should get off your ass and do something?

The first part of a solution is exposing the idiocy of these gov policies…the avg voter is woefully uninformed.

I can tell you I have sent letter after letter to the Forest service, emails to our politicians- its a black hole, they have their agenda.

I contribute to SCI who has also lobbied our gov but they are in the back pocket of the clueless calling themselves environmentalists that would rather have everything plastic and synthetic based over wood products that are a natural solution and renewable resource.

Do you have anything to offer as a solution? I’m all ears….

The smoke from Canada is thick as fog here is the East and we're supposed to worry about wood burning appliances? I hate government.

Whom in the USFS are you sending letters too? You speak of mismanagement, I'm curious what success looks like to you that is different than what is happening now.

BTW, I agree that our prior forest management practices have got us into this mess, curious you're thoughts on the solution.

So you are proposing more government oversight/management of government lands? And then less government with respect to industry?

I will be the first to admit I am not an expert on the subject. With your nickname here I’m guessing you probably have more insights than myself.

My thought is to utilize timber as a renewable resource- more so than it is now.

Create a plan, where we selectively log and clear these vast forests for fire control. When I say clear, I mean swaths through these as a fire break and or access.

They used to do just that when I was a kid, now the logging industry is a fraction of what it was back then in CA.

Canada is a whole different animal. Vast areas of remote forests that are all but inaccessible. Then factor in this is a semi Socialist country that is sputtering and barely functioning, on the verge of collapse from its own weight. They just don’t have the resources to take on a massive forest management plan.
Their main source of revenue is natural resource based.

I don’t know what the solution is there but it seems to me that somebody needs to do something because these wildfires are a huge percentage of the soot that is in the atmosphere and I’m not seeing any major proposals to solve it.
