Hi all, wanted some input on a couple packs...

Kifaru Eastern Ruck vs. Mystery Ranch 3DAP / Komodo Dragon

Pros and cons of each for flexibility to be used as an EDC, travel pack for work (carrying a laptop and iPad), camping (my wife will use this while I carry the bigger pack), diaper bag, and anything else you can think of for usage.

Thanks in advance.

I am surprised you haven't had any responses to this yet.
I don't have any experience with either of the packs you have listed. However I do have a TAD fast pack EDC which is similar in size to the MR 3DAP. It is quite versatile however I find that the shoulder straps don't fold down along the bag as well as would be ideal for EDC. I thought real hard about the 3DAP when I was shopping and didn't go that route because of the way the MR shoulder strap yoke sticks out. Also it was said somewhere that an EDC pack should be flat on the bottom. My TAD has an angled bottom which keeps the contents close to your back but the pack won't stand up on its own which is kind of a pain for EDC. Just some food for thought

I just received the eastern ruck to try as my whitetail pack. It's more space than needed for most of the season but season but it will come in handy on all day sits for carrying extra layers and food.

First impressions.....I like the pocket layout. Not a big fan of the drawstring close top but the side zip access to the main compartment solves that. The organizer pockets on the inside of those are great. I do wish the two front pockets were a little deeper but they'll work good for calls, bow hanger and possibly go pro and small video camera.

To test it out I'm using as a carry-on for a week trip to Florida. Easily fit a weeks worth of clothes, laptop, chargers, shaving kit and flip flops. It carries really well fully loaded.

The only thing that would keep me from using this as an esc pack is the drawstring top. I don't care for that getting my tablet and laptop in and out frequently. Hope this helps.

Thanks both for the response. Right now as my travel, EDC, and everything bags I have been using my very old Camelbak BFM and a 5.11 Rush 72. I like the layout of the Camelbak and has worked for me thus far when going overseas for weeklong trips albiet a bit on the tight side packing everything in, but I’ll now have to start carrying a pair of steeltoe boots while in the facilities and I’m sure it’ll dramatically eat up space. Would prefer easy access to laptop which the Camelbak has which a large external pocket, but thought with the 3-way zip on the 3DAP / Komodo and the side panels on the Eastern Ruck would give me and a bit more cubic inches to pack in the steeltoes.

I hadn't seen this before. I had and sold a MR Komodo Dragon, just too big for EDC. I've been using a MR ASAP every damn day for at least 7 or 8 years. Fits 13 inch MacBook, UL raincoat, accessory cords/chargers, first aid/trauma, and dog food. Plus add ons to hold a Nalgene and coffee thermos.
