Initial thoughts on the RokStok

Does the rokstok need to be bedded?
Got one ordered up at drop last night. Should be a month out or so.

Depends how stockys does on the inlet. I had one that needed it, other that has not.

Tell tale signs on the one that needed it - it shot like shit and it didn't in a KRG bravo. Looking at the inlet you could see where it was burning tight in some corners on the front end.

The ones for my Tikkas did not. The one I got for the Bat Vesper definitely did. As well as the front action screw shortened.

Looks like I need to get a LoP kit installed, which means a “ship back” to UM, BUT before I do that. Does anyone know if I can just unscrew the recoil pad and put another (thicker?) on it?

Look up the backfire recoil pad. It should add 1”
To the LOP

Also try a slip on pad first. See if it makes a difference? I am doing just that. It’s cheap, not permanent and works to determine if LOP is needed.

Shoot, just got my Maven last week, and ordered UM lows on Friday. About to order the RS when it goes live later today.

Sounds like I made a mistake not ordering the Med rings.

Well in your defense their website recommends the lows…. I made the same mistake and swapped to mediums. They’ll take care of you if you decide to switch.

I'd skip the boresighting....shoot one shot at a target at 25 yards, measure correction and dial, shoot one more shot just to make sure scope works right. Move back to 100 yards and shoot 1, 3, 5, 10, or 25 round group and then dial in your perfect zero.

Easy enough to scoot your face up to the nose of the comb for a look see through the bore. I clamp into a tripod at home and bore sight a distant power pole insulator.
Lumley bottom metal was a perfect drop in and their action fasteners required no trimming, magazines snick into place like they grew there.

I got to shoot the wood lite at a S2H course…that’ll be what my rifles go in. It is the ultimate set up for me. I’m smaller framed, and some of the bigger guys at the course preferred the standard size more. Either way the Rokstok is phenomenal.

When you say “smaller-framed”, what do you mean. This is something I have been thinking about as I get ready to order a RokStok at the next drop. I’m 5’10”, 180#. A standard 13.5” LOP should be right for me, but my favorite rifle actually has a 12.5” LOP. Does the RokStok fit you differently?

I’ve bore sighted using the same technique. Get the gun solid. Remove bolt. Get your face up in front of the comb and I can just barely eyeball down the bore. It has worked fine on two different rifles. I have a tall thin face though. YMMV

The lite version i shot had a 12.5” LOP if I remember correctly, @longrangelead could confirm this?

I’m 5’4 and 145#, fairly broad shoulders for a female, but otherwise small framed with a pretty short torso and arms. We actually measured and my ideal LOP is closer to 12”, but I shot the RS lite with ease.

When I shoot a standard RS, it’s a bit harder for me to reach the bolt and acquire my sight picture, plus mounting my scope for proper sight picture gets interesting. The RS Lite made it way easier to get into and stay in position and run the bolt. This wasn’t as big of a difference in prone, but in less stable positions where your rear hand isn’t as stable or secure, reaching for the bolt really threw the rifle around requiring more time to re-aquire my target. The other thing I noticed was because I have such small hands, some of the positional things are hard for me to clamp the stock and a stick or pack frame etc, the scalloped end of the lite made that way easier for me. Lastly, there is a weight savings on the lite, for most people it’s not a huge deal, but when backpacking in I do what I can to save weight.

If a guy is going to game it i sure like having a full length ARCA and the RS doesn’t facilitate that the best. Other than that, I don’t see why not.

I’ve shot with some roksliders who do it right and only bring stuff they would actually hunt with and I like that but struggle to leave my gamer stuff behind.

I measured that stock today, 13 ¼" lop.
due to its shape and ergos, almost everyone I have interacted with, prefers the standard 13.5" or longer, rarely shorter.
