Initial thoughts on the RokStok

I have only shot roughly 30 rounds through my 223 with it, and that was at the range on a concrete bench, so I don’t have a great set of experience yet with using it prone and in other positions.
The rokstok shines in real-life positional shooting, not benchrest shooting. I'd hold off judgement until you get a little more diverse use with it.

Or after the class, I may sell all of my Tikka’s, Mavens, and my RokStoks, and buy X-Bolt in 300 PRC, throw it in an MDT chassis, and slap an MOA NF on it … time will tell!
If you still dislike it after the course, I'll be happy to take it off you hands haha

I had a similar experience until I got my rokstock with a lop kit installed with high rings. Then all the comfort issues disappeared. Now it’s the most comfortable, intuitive stock I’ve ever used.

I've been told that. I've only held one with high rings i didn't get a chance to shoot it but i will agree it did make a big difference.

Re: Bore Sighting — Use a bigger piece of cardboard and start closer if you’re having difficulty getting relatively sighted in. That was my only change.
Right or wrong, that’s what I’ve always done. It might take a couple more rounds to get zeroed, but I have only bore sighted once, and it wasn’t close enough to be that valuable to me, I just start close, it’s never been a big deal

I think my 223 I had a zero in just a few rounds, I’m thinking 6 if memory serves me right, and have not touched it since

Do you have a flexible rod mfr that you favor? I only have a rigid one from J Dewey and it looks like the only flexible options are 6" long for the chamber specifically
A flexible cleaning rod? I think mine are Tipton, but I would have to check. I have a couple different guides but they’re just the generic adjustable ones that are just barely longer than the receiver.

I’d be the wrong guy to know best cleaning gear.

I had lows on my tikka factory stock. It worked with the rokstok but wasn’t ideal. After the season was over I swapped to mediums. Some guys have success pushing the scope further forward - especially with the maven.

You could mount the scope where you want it on the rail, take it out of the stock and Boresight it, and then install back into the stock if you are looking to save some time. Otherwise I just start at 50 to get on paper and then shoot a group of 10 at 100.

I have three rokstoks now, all tikka, and all Swfa scopes. Killed 5 animals with two different rifles last season. I really like it and wouldn’t hesitate to buy more in the future - I’ve really got my eyes on the lite version and the wooden version.

When I threw my 223 action in it, I had not zeroed it when I got to the range. I was confronted with the fact that it is not possible to naked eye bore site an action that is in a rokstok, while the bolt can come out, there’s no way to get behind the gun and actually look down the chamber. You either need to use a laser type bore site, or have bore sighted it prior to installing it in the rokstok

I can look down the bore and verify centricity of a muffler. Might be awkward for trying to keep the rifle still.

I have good luck putting scopes in the middle of there adjustment range, if using a rail with elevation built in, then dial for that. First round at 25 yards is pretty much aways on a sheet of printer paper. Dial to put it on POA, verify, then move to 100 yards. I have never bore sighted.

Shoot, just got my Maven last week, and ordered UM lows on Friday. About to order the RS when it goes live later today.

Sounds like I made a mistake not ordering the Med rings.

I got to shoot the wood lite at a S2H course…that’ll be what my rifles go in. It is the ultimate set up for me. I’m smaller framed, and some of the bigger guys at the course preferred the standard size more. Either way the Rokstok is phenomenal.

Not necessarily- I think @mxgsfmdpx has both on a bunch of different guns so unless you have a longer neck- you could be okay.

I like the standard size, but something about a wood stock made with modern requirements is awesome to me.

I’ve used that exact setup for the last few months. I’d probably recommend the mediums. The Lows are tough to get comfortable.

It's going on a stock tikka at least for this fall (I'm assuming the rokstok won't be delivered for a couple months minimum.) No long neck for me.

Lows are already in transit.

Mediums, lows, and highs are all perfectly shootable with Rokstoks using SWFA and Maven RS1.2 scopes for most folks.

Mediums are becoming the preferred height for most users, but most users also completely exaggerate needing a stock and rings to be “just so” for them to be able to even shoot it.

My RS1.2s land a bit forward so having the lows is perfect for me. Other scopes that land further back, users may want mediums and in a couple cases users have wanted highs.

Thanks for that feedback. I'll play around with the lows for a while.

Just call UM and swap them out. Great customer service there. I would suggest the mediums. The lows can work. But I would rather be more comfortable with a natural feel rather "making it work". I had a spare set of low rings on hand. I ordered the medium ring and do not regret it. Low rings for Tikka factory stock but I would use the medium as a default with the rokstok.

With the maven I was fine with lows. With the swfas I seem to prefer the mediums.

Does the rokstok need to be bedded?
Got one ordered up at drop last night. Should be a month out or so.
