Influenced

This forum is proof we all have been influenced by social media. This forum is just a great example of how all social media should be. Informative, educational, helpful and cool. We can peacefully have disagreements and conversations about tough topics and for the most part it doesn’t blow up.

The issue with other forms of social media is you are getting fed an algorithm which this one most likely doesn’t have. That algorithm is to create engagement good or bad, they just want the clicks. I have noticed everytime I go on my facebook feed there is always a post of someone I don’t follow that is a negative opinion on something I agree with. That website does it on purpose. This one doesn’t. Gotta sift through the sand to find the good stuff. For the most part the only form of social media I consume is this website and YouTube. I do my best to avoid the bad people but honestly half the time we don’t know a persons true personality till the dirt gets exposed. Then we adjust.

So many guys are suffering from Influencer Derangement Syndrome these days. You guys do realize that literally everyone in your life is influencing you to do something right !? My 9 year old daughter is the most aggressive influencer I know (Form is the 2nd 😜).

There’s plenty of good (and bad) influences out there these days. You watch them, listen to them, and buy their stuff, even if it’s only their ideology. To say you’re immune to influence is kind of silly. Unless you’ve made up every idea you’ve ever had from scratch in your own head, you’ve been influenced.

I don't think we're allowed to discuss this here, I posted a thread about it and it got deleted within minutes.

yeah, it hits a little close when the ones in trouble are "friends of the show". the list keeps growing.

I mean I get it, I don't want my friends to go viral either.

But.... it also seems like discussing issues and events that affect us all as hunters is healthy discussion. I mean look what they are battling in Oregon right now, actions like these by these influencers are giving the anti hunters more fuel.

We should be able to call out those among us that are shooting holes in the boat. Especially when those same people are putting themselves in the limelight and constantly posting on social media to grow their clout and their wallets. Would a post congratulating Snyder on some big buck he killed and posted have been deleted? Something tells me that discussion probably woulda been allowed to continue.

Social media will be the death of hunting someday and we'll have no one to blame but ourselves.

There are 12 pages of discussion regarding the coyote video and the various opinions about Aron. I locked that thread this weekend, but didn't delete it. Nobody is protecting "friends of the show". We just don't want to babysit a bunch of arguing adults. Points were made and opinions shared. Nobody is changing their views or learning anything by continuing to discuss it.

Aron was one of the founding members of Rokslide, and he has many personal friends here. He hasn't been active much in the last few years, but he used to help people here every day. I've met him in person a couple of times and hold no allegiance to him. He has always been helpful and cool in our interactions. I think he messed up in this situation, and it's not good that the video was taken and worse that it was shared. I don't see anything good coming from this.

Rokslide is a gear-focused website, and we will do our best to keep that as our main focus. There are plenty of other websites and social media platforms for anyone who feels the need to virtue signal and grandstand. We do our best to keep that crap out of here.

I have FB mostly for concert/music info, and marketplace. I don't follow any hunting personalities.

I occasionally listen to the Shoot 2 Hunt podcast.

And I like the Meateater episodes that are Steve talking to someone outside the hunting realm.

"7 tips to kill big bucks" is just uninteresting to me. I get more than enough info on gear here. Lol

I own a company that uses influencers so it’s easy for me to see through. Almost every purchase I make is decided through searching forums (reddit, rokslide, archery talk etc.)

My bad, I was outdoors most the weekend so missed the thread. Apologies for trying to beat a dead horse.

I don't have Facebook or IG or any of the other stupid social media's to "follow" or "Subscribe" to any influencers but I SOMETIMES troll their videos on YouTube because I know that deep down it hurts their feelings when they read my comments pointing out their ridiculous conduct. I think its hilarious.

I have been killing animals since I was a child. There isn't much I am going to learn from some idiot wearing Kuiu that I haven't already learned the hard way while wearing my smelly Walmart sweater....(see avatar for a nice picture of said sweater)

They thank you for the extra publicity. There really is no such thing as bad publicity for them. Engagement matters. There's really no 'positive' or 'negative' engagement.
