Does anyone know of a trail camera or setup that never needs charging or new batteries? I am trying to help a buddy out who has a remote camera in a different state. Ideally, it would charge itself. I see some with solar panels built in but I am not sure how well those work or not. Bears hit the water too so I am not sure if a big battery on the ground would last...

Well without a solar panel there will be no charging. There aren't any other options other then solar.

If bears are an issue you can try mounting the solar panel up in a tree maybe.

OK, I get that. So any trail camera will a solar panel will run indefinitely?

Something I find interesting is the Wise Eye solar panel. It has a battery bank in it, that the solar panel charges. Their cell cams will default to external power supply, only using internal batteries if the panel is dead, and switches back and forth as the panel is charged.

You can also get a power cable for them for about $10 that you can hook to a much larger external battery.

Just be mindful of how much sun the panel will actually get.
