I'm not a seasoned or professional Bowhunter. However, I will say bowhunting the mountains of Northeastern California is in my DNA. The men in my family have been harvesting animals here for over 10,000 years. I guess you could say the Bowhunter in me has been awakened. After this past season, my life will never be what it was before I loosed the arrow that killed my first Blacktail Buck.
Spending hours in the C-Zone scouting. I was excited to find a bachelor group, a first for me. I had lots of great experiences up there. On opening day I had a young doe come within a foot of me. I was out Still Hunting. She followed me for about 45 mintes as I moved along a timbered ridge. Awesome!
Mintues before my Buck showed up we had a Black Bear at 60 yards. With no tag, we scared him back into the trees. It had to have been that Bear that sent the buck up to the same spot.
One of the happiest days of my life. I worked hard for this opportunity. Scouted for months, shot every chance I got. This Buck showed himself at 63 yards between two trees. I had to thread the needle, and hit exactly where I was aiming. Probably all luck!
He wasnt a toad, but he's still a trophy to me. I cant wait to get back up there. Bowhunting has become my life. This year I hope to get an X-Zone and chase Muleys. No matter what, this year I'll be back in the mountains of the old ones.
