In search of a bighorn sheep skull to buy.

Not to derail this thread but… I purchased a set of dall sheep horns at an estate sale in Missouri several years ago. It only has the skull cap still attached. It was mounted on a homemade wooden plaque. On the back of the plaque was written that it had been harvested in Alaska in 1977. It doesn’t have a plug in the horns and I’m wondering if they started doing that to horns sometime after 77’. Was it not legal for them to be sold at an estate sale? Would it be illegal for me to sell them if I ever wanted to?

I get the tricky dynamics involved when dealing with anything sheep related, but dang some of you are harsh right away on new members and assume everything has to involve a tinfoil hat. I will vouch that George is not a scammer
I echo this. Some of y'all are being jerks to a new guy who asked for help and provided his contact information. Be better.

Excuse us of being leery of someone wanting what could be a potential Lacey Act violation with one of the most protected huntable species in the country. Not to mention having little to no trust with the alphabet agencies that seem to target our demographic...

Were you personally going to sell him a sheep skull? If not, then it doesn't concern you.

We have a whole classifieds section specifically for firearms, which as you know is governed by several federal laws. Do we get onto each classified and harass the seller there?

Folks are welcome to have concern with his request. But that doesn't mean it's appropriate to be a jerk.

And if someone was in the gun classifieds was asking for someone to sell them a Class 3 or NFA item and ship it to their house, I'd be just as skeptical. Not being a jerk, but very odd request.

If you are going to call out every response to a thread that is not a direct answer or interested party, then I hope you have plenty of time on your hands.

What are the odds....someone who is a "skull collector" happens to want a real bighorn sheep skull. Happens to come onto a forum dedicated to DIY mountain hunting, and then a sub-forum dedicated to sheep hunting. There are literally hundreds of more logical places via google that would have made more sense.

To get your feelings hurt enough to criticize anyone acknowledging the weirdness of this post, you are either gullible, naive, or a co-conspirator.

I haven't called out "every response... that is not a direct answer." I called out the general harshness of this thread.

There's literally guys here asking questions about cars, homes, etc., that have nothing to do with DIY western hunting -- when there are "literally hundreds of more logical places via google that would have made more sense." It's an internet forum, my dude. He asked a sheep question to sheep hunters.

My feelings are not hurt. But it seems you have may have been offended by my critique, given the subsequent name-calling. So if I did hurt you, I do apologize. I just think we're better as a community.

The difference (you are oblivious to, or ignoring) is guys who are established members here ask questions about those things as they are a part of a community. People don't create accounts on this forum to ask about their car or house. This guy created an account simply to create this thread, and his only posts are also on this thread.

I didn't call you any names. I just used words that have meaning relative to this situation. You, however, were the first and only person in this thread to call people names ("jerks").

Welcome to my ignore list

Alaska started in 2004. State/provinces were mid to late 70s, 80s. My dad and grandpa have 12 or 13 sheep between them shot in Alaska, BC, New Mexico. Not one has a plug in it. All killed in the 70s and 80s. Some places initiated registering before plugging.

I have a Dall Ram that I got in the Yukon as a resident in 1986. It has a plug that was inserted when I registered it.

Colorado use to have an auction to sell hides and antlers that were taken as evidence in court cases, I don't know if they still do it but might be worth a phone call to CPW.

I appreciate the advice, questions, comments, and concerns. I definitely wouldn't of wasted my time registering for this platform and seeking out sheep hunters for a specific buying/selling question if i was bogus... Like was said, there's other places i can go and ask/request from. A 180 inch sci or larger bighorn is hard to come buy, unless it was found dead or sitting at a g&f auction..... other than that, i wouldnt expect anyone to sell theirs unless theyre hurting for money or they need the little bit of extra space.

Also, i wouldnt of provided my contact info if i was scamming either... a simple phone call can definitely clarify my intentions and interests with a real sheep skull/horns... and no, ebay doesnt have anything like what im looking for and taxidermy.net runs thin on sellers of bighorns, as well....

If "you" dont have a sheep skull to sell, thats ok... move along, im not hurting you or who/what you represent. I love hunting and i collect skulls. Nothing illegal and nothing out of the ordinary... and its kinda hard to scam someone when usually... you pay before it ships.... right? I should be the one thats skeptical of scammers... which i am... came across a few... theyre easy to point out, especially when they send google images of your own sheep skulls to.you.

Anyway. Thank.you all for contributing. I appreciate the time and efforts.

Actually, it's happened. I remember someone created an account to post on a house thread.

Just watched some show on Diiscovery Chanel or something about selling human bones. Only like 500.00 for a human skull and perfectly legal to buy/sell. You skull collectors freak me out…
