I was lucky enough to get an 8 pound jug of imr 4955 enduro today, I was just wondering if anyone has had success with it in a 6.5 prc. The burn rate is in between rl22 and h4831 which are both on the load charts for my 153gr atips. Seems to me like there’s no problem using it in my gun. It’s listed on imrs description as being good for a 6.5prc

Any luck with it? Looks like that's what unknown munitions uses for most their 6.5 prc builds.

Any updates on this? I have two pounds of the stuff and I'm going to work up some 6.5 prc loads with 130 grain controlled chaos and 127 grain lrx, also, emailed Unknown and they said to start out just under 50 and work up to low 50's

Yes,6.5prc/4955/fed210/ and 124gr hammer hunters.Long story short I started at 50gr, got about 2800fps then pressure from 50.5 and up. I quit at 53 with heavy bolt lift and only 3140fps. I punted and went back to ramshot..

Others have used it with the 123 absolute hammer, getting over 3300 FPS. But that is only applicable for the absolute hammer line....

I recently used it in my 280ai with 143 HH's, topped out at 3100 FPS due to case capacity.

Why only for the AH line? I definitely want to revisit this stuff and really make sure I vibrate the cases as capacity was very limited.

AH are designed differently, so for the same weight they typically need faster powders. The 3300 FPS was developed on the AH line and my not happen with the HH line.

I ended up at 52.5 grains with the 4955 and the 130 grain lehigh bullets, <1" groups at 100 yards, and I'm not a great shooter so that's pretty good for me. Got some barnes lrx 127 grains and planning to do a work up with that as well. Will post when I have accuracy info. I'm using hornady brass and fed 210 match primers. I also just got a bunch of those lapua 155 grain mega bullets but I think I'm going to use something slower burning for those like magpro or ramshot lrt.

A bergara b-14 wilderness ridge 24in barrel.

I also have a load 52.5 grains of that 4955 with the barnes 127grain lrx. Getting around 3000fps with it. My main problem with the load is a big standard deviation in velocity. So far I've only hunted with it around the 100 yard range so I don't know how much of a problem it is, but out further I'm sure I'll run into problems with accuracy with that big of a difference in velocity from round to round. That said, even with the big variation in velocity it still shoots .5" groups at 100 yards, so for the majority of hunting at least in my local area, which is very hilly, it's a fine hunting round. Great bullet, really a fantastic hunting bullet, especially at that velocity. Lowish bc for that caliber though, so I'm sure for long range hunting it would not be so fantastic.

I finally got my hands on an 8# jug of h1000 so I'm hoping for some more consistent loads from that.

I did hunt this year with the IMR4955 lrx loads though and they DEFINITELY did the job, two deer with that load one of them dropped on the spot and the other did not get far. Don't think I'd recommend it as a precision target load though, at least with my bare-bones single stage press and basic tools it gets way to big of a deviation in velocity (and some of my other loads are MUCH more consistent so I don't think it's my gear necessarily).

That was a ramble. Sorry.

Thanks, I have a Mauser M18 I need a reliable hunting load for. Ive got several powders that can work, but none of the best for the 6.5 prc... if it isn't temp stable, I don't want it...

I'd love to have H1000, Magnum, RL23, or even 7977.

I've got 2lb 4831SC, 2lb LRT, 2lb 8133, 4lb 4955 and a pound of a dozen different faster powders.

I expect 4955 to be okay for 120-140gr. LRT for 140-160gr.

I have PPU 156gr SFP, Hornady 140 SST, Lehigh 130gr CC, and Sierra 120gr SP for projectiles. ADG brass.

Was thinking of starting with the 130gr CC over 52gr 4955, the 140gr SST over 50.5gr of 4955 and the 156 SFP over 60.5gr LRT or 56.5gr 8133.

Thoughts?

@stinkyneighbor i got load data from Lehigh for the CC130 and H4831SC, max load 54.6 gr. Were you seeing pressure over the 52.5 load you used?

I pressure tested it up to 55 grains if i remember correctly (don't have my notes in front of me), but groups opened up after 53 grains (not hugely mind you, but not .5 moa). After 53.5 grains i was seeing flat primers and harder bolt lift.

Did you try different seating depths? How far off the lands were you? Whats your oal?

The oal for that load in my gun is 2.88 which putis it .053" from the jam point. Havent tried different seating depths yet because hunting season was upon me and I needed to call it good at that point.

I'm trying it in my .284 Win since I can't find H4831. Seems to be doing okay, but with mono's it's hard to get enough powder in the case and keep my rounds under 3.00" to fit my Savage magazine. The loads are very compressed.

56 grains put three 150 GMX's into the same hole for me yesterday morning. It has potential. Speed is nothing to write home about but I don't ignore one-hole groups.

55 grains under 160 Speers produced 0.7's consistently.

Still experimenting with IMR 4166 for the 139 LRX's. Velocity is superb but the accuracy is lacking so far.
