Like what OnX has already done…They gonna start selling your spots
They would be selling a lot of way points of mine that lead to or mean absolutely nothing lol. They gonna start selling your spots
Couple of pins for good places to take a dump?I did it, but only with some pins from an unsuccessful low odds huntI haven’t gotten any notification of any credit, time will tell.
Hey sometimes those pins can be valuable, especially in open sage countryCouple of pins for good places to take a dump?
More context would be helpful to support your statement.Like what OnX has already done…
As a fellow software engineer I share the same concerns and take similar precautions.I've never seen any evidence that any one of these vendors has "sold" private waypoint data. With the user bases they have, you're talking about hundreds of thousands (or maybe even millions) of data points. At some point it's no longer even "secret spots" - it's just a polka-dot grid. That being said, there is absolutely nothing that stops internal staff from taking a peek and you never know who has a "buddy who knows a guy who works there" or an employee willing to share some things on the sly for a few hundred bucks. IMO it's almost as bad not knowing they don't as being sure that they do.
Let's put it this way. With absolutely zero evidence to back up this concern, as a software engineer myself I absolutely do not put anything sensitive into OnX, GoHunt, or any of these other tools. I'm just too familiar with what could go wrong, whether it has/does or not.
GoHunt has been running some pretty lucrative promotions recently. Makes one wonder if they are struggling to get members. I am not a CPA but when I see things like this, I wonder if there is some tax advantage they are taking advantage of. Who knows.Must be struggling pretty hard with people adopting the mapping service....
