I love the Solo and honestly the NICE Longbow was miserable, I hated that pack. I know some guys love them, but I couldn't get to like it at all and at nearly 7 pounds empty, it wasn't inline with what I thought a light and fast pack should be.

The Solo comes in just a hair over 3.5 pounds, collapses down very nice as a day pack and yet also is a full backpack when you need one. My Solo, sleeping bag, pad and a tarp weigh less than a NICE 6500 weighed empty and just a little bit over a NICE Longbow empty.

I will warn you though, if you are a kitchen sink kind of guy, the Solo is not for you. Your gear list needs to be tight and you need to be using compact gear. You cannot throw everything from a 5000 ci pack and expect it to fit.

The icing on the cake is the customer service from Kurt, he is 100% behind you being happy with the pack and will go out of his way to make sure you are.

bud. you got me thinking. (<--which is dangerous)

i just did the math. going with a SG is just about 10 caramel macciatos triple vanilla double soy vente lattes extra in cost!!
(i drink coffee black :))

anyone running the Approach? i think i might get the SOLO! i've always wanted to compare the SG to my kifaru..

any pics with a size comparision? can you shoot a bow wearing the pack?

Disclosure- I have not tried the approach; but- the Solo only weighs 23-24 oz and is much bigger than the approach and IMO would seem to be much more versatile. The Solo shrinks down to nothing when compressed. You can always call Kurt ( super nice guy) and ask him what is opinion is of the Solo. I believe he will tell you that he is very fond of it.

Yes- you can shoot your bow with the pack on. It has a very narrow profile.

Approach in action.

Pages 3, 4 and 5 he does his review of the Approach and some pictures of it in use.

In my opinion though, the Solo flattens down so easily and nicely it looks and feels just like a day pack. North Idaho is very brushy in places and having a pack that is narrow and not too tall that it gets hung up everything is a must. Yet it's just tall enough the load lifters work like they are supposed to.
