so what???????????????
americans still give away a ton of money to charities all over the world. no one has the right to tell another either how much or who to give to .or even that they must give.
I agree. I'm saying people are human. I'm talking real general. I'm going kinda deep. I'm saying we are all sinners.

A lot of traditional, seemingly conservative Americans have a sticking point with Republicans. For my relatives, who were Roosevelt Democrats, it was that Democrats favored farmers more, and Republicans were mean rich, greedy people. The more successful my relatives were they were Republican and vica versa in general. My Roosevelt Grandparents were not wealthy. However, they worked hard and never took a dime from anyone. They were moderate Democrats.
I love that those I work for are getting rich. it means I am doing a good job!!!!!!!!!!

people today just can't seem to grasp , there is no longer any such thing as a "moderate" democrat.
to be fair and honest their really isn't any such thing as a "moderate " republican either.

Agree...plus:

Ford was smart enough to realize you had to pay a wage high enough to your own employees so they could afford the product you're selling and they're manufacturing.
He was visionary for sure. His famous deal was a car for the working man!! My grandad started working for Henry by sweeping the floors after he dropped out of high school and left the farm. 30 years later, and after getting his hs diploma after working for the Ford family, except when he was laid off in depression and shelled peas and was an embalmer, he managed 12,000 Ford employees. Ford like other business giants made many others very wealthy too.

I think I Identify with you more than others here. However, I do meditate and have learned a lot of Buddhist teachings. Not the religion. I started out with the Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction that an American developed to handle severe pain and stress. Look at and read what the Dali Lama says. Sure he talks about climate change. Look at what he says bad about Trump. Nothing bad. He's not political. Anyway I use the teachings to help calm me down and focus. Bill

I know nothing about buddists but have no issues with them doing their thang, so long as they leave me to do mine.

They are probably the least authoritarian group on the planet! Like everything else, there are hypocrites.

I think the unemployment and wages report just came out. I don’t know much just a dumb construction worker but it seemed to tell a pretty good story.

The population of Sidney was around 6000. Cabelas employed 2200. It's pretty hard to rebound from that.

The clip touches on real estate values plummeting, but it doesn't talk about the hit the school system is taking. Less property tax revenue, less enrollment, which also leads to less state funding, and some staff losing thier jobs, which leads to more families moving out of the community.... The snowball of effects from this is still growing.
my thought is ,maybe Sidney should have had some forethought and vision and not put so many eggs in one basket.

I’ve considered that perspective, but, with some thought, I’m not sure what else a Town like this could have done to further diversify to the extent that it would offset a employer loss such as this short of growing a small, rural town into a small city of 100,000+ people. That being said, better to have prospered for a 20-30 year period than to not have prospered at all.

Excerpt from the article

" In the same way, champions of global capitalism might look at the desolation of a town like Sidney and conclude, hey, this is just the price of free markets. Carlson argues that no, this is the price of maintaining a system designed to benefit people like Singer at the expense of middle-class Americans.
All of this is part of a reckoning now underway in America about what our government is for and whose interests it should serve. The status quo of recent decades, in which both major political parties crafted policies that served the interest of an established donor class, is coming to an end.
The election of Donald Trump is a manifestation, not a cause, of this reckoning. And while the left descends into a fever swamp of utopian socialist fantasies carried over from the last century, the right is grappling with these questions in earnest."

a town that does not grow is doomed to fail. that is just the plain harsh truth.

it may not die out completely but a stagnant town offers little incentive for any but the retired to stay. like it or not ,one MUST pay the bills to survive and the young tend to go where they can make a living. the alternative for many of those who choose to stay , is to live off gov handouts and live in poverty. some enjoy this life style . most ,imho, do not.

I despise cities but the plain truth is, that is where most of the good jobs are .

I get that folks don't want change and it is fine if a towns citizens choose to stagnate. what bugs me is when those same folks who chose to have no vision ,blame others for their lack of it.

oh well. personal responsibility for ones choices is an important part of my beliefs .I often forget that I no longer live in a nation where most of the citizens feel the same.

these days , "bail me out" , is the common cry.

There is conservative and there is liberal. Anything labeled as "moderate" with either just means that they have already, or are currently compromising on either. I would never "compromise" on values, morals, or logic........yet we see that happen in politics every day.

Absolutely. Our nation has long forgotten the concept of "personal responsibility", and when you even bring that kind of thinking up, it's as if you just shot someone's dog. But in that case, they all flip flop right back and demand personal responsibility. It's an odd society we live in today when people pick and choose when to "have and show" their values or go 180 degrees from those at every drop of the hat. Why can't people just be consistent? I think part of the problem is that they don't have a foundation to even know what values they should have. So they flip flop around like a fish on the dry river bank.

You could also say that if one’s politics meet either the contemporary“conservative” or “liberal” definition, then one is merely conforming their ideals to identity politics. Compromise and conformity are more similar than they are different.

This exact Thing happened in the small town I live not far from, our biggest industry closed its doors 20 years ago after being bought out by a German company, our area has suffered ever since, city and county government have exhausted funds , state Grants for land development and offered huge tax incentives trying to entice any family wage industry to the area.
Since closing we have been over run by fast food restaurants small time loan companies and dinky used car lots, nothing that has decent wages to sustain a comfortable way of life, there’s just a handful of family wage jobs here and if you don’t have one your in trouble in my area.

I would agree.......it's hard to compromise on something when you had no basis with it to begin with. But it's pretty easy to conform to something if you're not careful.

Re Cabelas; Gov has a role here. Its not the "provide everything for everybody" of the current progressive Democrat squad....but in the case of Cabelas leaving Sidney,NE;

The local gov could team with the Feds to offer incentive for one of the new improved businesses to come in and utilize the infrastructure and existing workforce. For example. a company like that Shave Club for Men....or other similar business models.

Now I dunno the specifics of that particular business....but the point is; Gov can step in, offer 10 year tax incentives for a up and coming or even existing business to come in there- its very appealing to the right outfit.

IMHO, Gov's role;
1) Protect its citizens from the folks that have proven they don't deserve to live with the rest of us.
2) Equal the playing field...and step in when there is a injustice like that HF trading example.
3) Monitor infrastructure and maintain

Thats it....more gov just means more money down a rat hole.
Anybody that wants to have politicians like Maxine Waters or Alexandria Cortez control your life is nuts.

You want to be mad about something, How about this new legislation letting Loan Sharks charge folks as much as 36% interest?

Reps. Jesus Garcia, D-Ill., and Glenn Grothman, R-Wis., are the cosponsors of a bill called the Veterans and Consumer Fair Credit Act (the bill has nothing to do with veterans, and several veterans groups have written to complain of this ruse). It would cap interest rates on short-term and emergency loans at 36 percent. Critics of short-term lenders say they "target" low-income and minority Americans. The left says this new law would "save" low-income Americans between $5 and $10 billion a year.

Anyone claiming this^ helps low income folks is getting paid to say that...or in the back pocket of the check cashing places.

High interest rate Credit card debt, loans etc will absolutely kill you financially and should be avoided at all costs.
