Whitetail season opened here today and after mulie and elk hunting for the first time (for 10 days) in my life 2-3 weeks ago. I'll just blatantly say. This sucks. Settin here feelin like a bump on a log. I'd trade this whitetail Huntin for western hunting hands down.

I'm jealous of you full time spot and stalk people in the west. Best of luck to all of you

Western hunting is whole new game. I lived back east for many complaining about the walk to the deer stand and just sitting there. It's extremely boring.
Then I had the opportunity to move to Colorado in 09' and have enjoyed the hunting and the mountains ever since.
All you have to do is "pull the trigger" and move out west as well!

I love western hunting, but I still get one heck of thrill from a WT coming in to you stand. I used to dream about moving out west, but I don't think I could leave the long seasons and multiple tags behind.

I used to get pretty excited about Whitetail, it is boring compared to going out west. Do it yourself Elk hunting has pretty much ruined my Whitetail hunting passion, spending time in the woods is still great but sitting still doesn't agree with me

At least you are sitting there. My archery season here in Colorado and Idaho was a blast, no doubt, but now it's all over. I'm sitting at my house like a bump on a log, so enjoy it while you can....

Wish I could but this beef and dairy farm has me tied down. I can't leave my dad

Whitetail hunting from a stand certainly does get old. Those of us from the east should be thankful we have any big game to hunt but I do agree most of us probably are jealous of those lucky enough to live in the west.

I live to hunt hunt both, of course out here I hunt whiteys on the ground, moving thru the timber , most all of my deer have been shoot at 50 yards or less.
Shot 1 of my biggest buck last year on the ground , at 50 yards bedded rifle hunting. I have shot 2 from the ground with my bow stalking in from 100 yards or so. For me outsmarting a whitey on his turf at his level is a rush.
So what keeps you in the stand? Noisy leaves, thick brush , scent control? Just trying to learn about eastern hunting. I have never hunted east. I grew up hunting them on the ground.

There certainly is a part of me that misses getting up at zero dark thirty and walking out to my stand and waiting for that first light to come and hear that first branch crack or leaves rustling. I don't know why but I sure do miss it. Maybe it's the company that I had in deer camp that I no longer have 3000 mi away. Anyways enjoy what you have and hopefully your time allows you to peruse your new found love of western hunting. Cheers!

It's thick with brush you'd never get an eye on them and be able to keep and eye on them to make your moves

I definitely prefer western hunting, but enjoy both. After beating myself up hiking up and down mountains for two months out here it is a lot of fun to end the season with an IL whitetail hunt where all I have to do is sit, watch, and relax.

I got bitten by the hunting bug after I left the Midwest so have never hunted whitetails. I do get jealous of the generous seasons and multiple tags the Midwest offers in some states!! Sit back and enjoy every opportunity to be outdoors!

I agree with the OP, I still hunt whitetail and it's a challenge in it's own right but after hunting the high country out west I have lost much of my passion for it.
