A few notes from a Forager and Classic owner, who’s also used another rental classic for a trip.
The self bailing floor adds weight and a risk of getting your butt damp, but never to the point where you’ll be soaked. If you’re floating low water, where you might be in and out all day to drag/walk your raft over bars, the self bailer is nice as splashing a bit of water as you get in and out isn’t a big deal.
For mountain hunts, I float in wiggys glacier socks so I can get in and out in a pinch. When weight isn’t an issue, I wear full on waders and boots.
The cargo fly is the best thing about alpacka rafts, the second best part being the inflation bag system.
Lot of respect for Larry, and the PR 49 seems high quality, but I’ve yet to put one through its paces. I agree with his honest assessment that it’s made with a different purpose than Alpacka’s stuff.
