What would your perfect light weight boot be? For a backcountry/front country stalking boot be? Not necessarily one that is available now but if you could combine the attributes of any boots what would it be?

Of course this will be very subjective but for me it would be:

Full lace Perwanger Suede Pro 2.8 Suede upper with protective 360-degree rand.
Tri-flex ankle
GORE-TEX Uninsulated Performance Comfort Liner
Pro-Fiber XT 20 Insole
PU and EVA midsole with supportive 3/4-length shank
Vibram MulazTotal Traction sole
AG mountaineering Last

Wait a minute. . . I think I just described the Scarpa Triolet GTX Pro. . . Yeah I did. . . I can't believe they are discontinuing them!

That's kind of a cop out, you just quoted what works for you now not what you would design.

Not a cop out at all . . . I didn't design the Trilolet but I also would not change anything about it. It does work for me because it is a well designed boot that would meets all the criteria of a perfect hunting boot for me based on the OP's outline .

If I or anyone else could design and build a boot that would work for everyone there would be only one boot manufacturer in the world. . . There is no golden boot, as well as there is no golden gun, or truck, or backpack, or tent, or. . . . . . . ;)

Something without a sloppy a@$ heel pocket and some room in the toe box for people who's toes point forward. If I could find that I'd put up with whatever else they decided to go with.

Sportiva trango cube with more cushion in the midsole and one eyelet taller upper.

Or Hanwag Ancash on a trango last with sportiva 2.8mm Perwanger suede.

For me to two most important aspects are weight and waterproofness (sp). Light boots that are still supportive on nasty terrain and grippy on rock are absolute money for me.

I wear Meindls and they are damn good boots...but they are HEAVY AF. Same boot 2 pounds lighter for the pair would be the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Hmm, combo of the lowa Tibet and the salomon fugitives. Good heel cup and tough shank.

That's the way it works. When I saw this thread my first thought was......if I had 10 pairs of the "discontinued" Zamberlan Dakota 518 7" boots, I'd be set for the rest of my life. These have been the absolute best hunting boots I've had on my feet in the last 35+ years.

That was a great boot! I deconstructed a lot of Zamberlan boots for research and I can say they are among the best constructed boots in the market. They don't get near the credit in the mountaineering community as they deserve.

My current Trango TRKs are working out well. That last with a slightly stiffer PU midsole for more long lasting support. Make a non-GTX version for hot weather.

I would make an all leather, full rand, high end GTX or eVent, similar fit to salomon Quest 4D but better tread, available in wide (a true wide) all the way through 15. Someone makes this boot and they will absolutely make a pile of money.

agree with several others- snug fit in the heel/midfoot BUT plenty of room in the toe box- not sure why that is so hard????

aggressive outsole, full rand, stiff (but not overly), leather (or very tough synthetic)- relatively lightweight

Give me my Lowa Renegades with a full rand, just a wee bit more aggressive tread, and custom fit for slightly less volume, and I'd buy them for life. I want a boot I feel like I could play a basketball game or pack 100 pounds through a sandstone field in and these are the closest to that extreme compromise I've found.

100% waterproof, breathable, good traction, support and fit. Durable, if I can break them by simply walking through the woods in them, I don't want them. Lightweight. Easy to care to for (I usually just hose them off). Warm from about 60 - 20 degrees.

Start by getting rid of leather, make the uppers out of a water proof material that breathes like a screen door and will last for 40yrs. Has a comfort range from 20 below to 120 above. sloes that have the traction of mud bogger tires and the treat as soft as foam rubber. Keep the weight at 6 oz. per boot. Don't know if some company will come up with this but you can't never tell. Oh and price $10 a pair LOL.

perfect boot would make me silent..and invisible..and smell like a forest breeze.
