If you could "build" your "do all" lower 48 hunting rifle......

If I could do anything, one rifle, I'd take a 700 stainless in 30-06.

- .30-06
- 700 action, fluting and spiral bolt
- 20" barrel fluted and threaded
- Timney trigger
- Probably a 3-9 Credo illuminated
-DNZ Game Reaper, they look ugly but all my rifles wear them, sure theres better but I like how foolproof they are
- Liberty Precision Mach S
- Probably a HS Precision stock but I have a love height relationship with aluminum bedding blocks
- Hinged floor plate

As much as I like .308 I get more bang flops with the .30-06. I just want a rifle good for 10 yards to 400 yards. Thick woods. I'm not a Western person, though its in my dreams, I currently live in Maine. So all the small diameter higher velocity bullets are out. Bigger diameter slower bullets is better through brush. Im sure thats wrong just what I think. I love 300s in general but a .308 or .30-06 is more versatile and doesn't destroy meat. .30-06 is definitely a better choice for hand loaders, can load way down for coyotes or up for bear moose. This rifle would probably suck at long range but for my area be perfect.

- 7SAUM _ 180 Bergers
- Defiance AntiX med
- 20 inch CF Bartlein
- Trigger tech Special
- NF NX8 2.5-20
- UM rings
- Airlock. 30 suppressor
- MDT Hnt26

Already did it:
- .243 Winchester
- Tikka T3X stainless steel
- TIKKA 20” stainless steel, 1:8” twist, factory threaded
- Tikka trigger
- SWFA 6x mil-quad (upgrade to the ZeroTech S2H 3-18x44 when available)
- UM Tikka low rings
- US OG 6.5 or Airlock ZG 6.5 (replace with US OG 6mm prototype from Black Friday sale when it arrives)
- Fancy wooden RokStok
- PR Precision stainless steel bottom metal (winter trigger)
- Waters Rifleman magazines

That specific rifle is getting QD cups installed on it right now, but here is the previous 6.5 CM iteration (with AB Raptor 8). I sold the 6.5 CM barreled action and bottom metal to another Rokslider and dropped in the new .243 and the PR Precision winter bottom metal.

Damn, those wood Rokstok’s always look amazing. Makes me want one every time I see one.

I made a solid try of it this last year.

with money as no object and starting over again in a fantasy world where all the below are available for purchase:
- consider defiance CRF instead of Winchester Model 70? (rem footprint for trying out stocks?)
- 18" steel barrel
- airlock 6.5 or 7mm can
- 'someday rokScope' 3-12 under 20oz
- 6.5 or 6mm cartridge
- pair of exchangeable stocks depending on the hunt: gunwerks magnus & gunwerks endex

Haven't seen a lot of custom model 70 builds posted so I thought I would share mine in case anyone found it interesting.

In no way is this the practical route to get the best performing gun and there are things I would do different if I started again but I'm fairly happy with the results so far.
Primary reasoning for going custom was because I wanted a 3 position safety + CRF (I grew up with them and I just like them) with a vertical grip, flat or negative comb, and shortish barrel for a can. When the process started none of the CRF factory action makers: Winchester, Ruger, Montana, & Kimber offered that combination of features in a factory configuration.
I started this build before I really had read a ton of the stuff on here regarding caliber and optics and the like but I'm pretty glad that I didn't let perfect be the enemy of done and got this thing together.

I've had this one for about 2 years and have used it on every hunt we've had since. So far we've taken 11 animals with it from a coyote, whitetail, mule deer, black bear, and mtn goat. This is my first hunting rifle with a chassis and I have no real complaints. I was looking at something like a manners lrh or TS KS1 but opted for the chassis to see how I liked it. I still prefer the look of a stock over a chassis but it's growing on me.

6.5PRC 156 berger
- Lone Peak Fusion Med
- Benchmark CF 24" 1:7.5
- Trigger Tech Special
- NX8 4-32
- Hawkins
- MBM 4 port and TBAC ultra 9
- XLR Element 4.0

My future plans are installing the carbon rage LR stock on my sako 85 finnlight and re barrelling to a 280ai.

I’d almost change to a 6.5CM shooting the Blackarc high pressure ammo but it’s never in stock. I like the compact rifle and can combo.

MRC Marshall
Wood rokstok lite
18" 6PRC
Either OG6.5 or Airlock ZG
New ZeroTech Rokscope

Would it really do anything that my .243AI Tikka in a rokstok can't do? Not much!

Do it. This Marshall may get a 6PRC sibling eventually.

A wood RS Lite is probably on my list at some point too. Until then, this is the bee's knees round these parts.

As the title says, money isn't an option here, if you could build a "do all" hunting rifle (pronghorn, deer, elk, moose, black bear, etc) what are you building?

- Cartridge
- Action
- Barrel/specs of barrel
- Trigger
- Scope
- Mount/rings
- Suppressor/brake/bare muzzle
- Stock
- Bottom Metal

I'm really interested in seeing what people say.
Seekins PH3 action. I’ve come to love the 60* throw.

Gunwerks Clymer Stock, since we’re dreaming.

Bartlein #3 1-8” cut and threaded 5/8x24 @ 18”.

Nightforce NXS 2.5x10x42 MOAR or MIL-R, makes no difference to me.

Hawkins or Nightforce ultralight rings (lows).

Chambered in 6.5 Western (yes 6.5 not 6.8 with necked down ADG brass).

Throat cut for 147+ grain bullets at Seekins SA mag length. 3.12” with the spacer removed, if I remember correctly?

Bix-n-Andy TacSportPro (again dreaming here).

Seekins factory PH3 bottom metal and mags.

Dead Air Nomad TiXC

In the off season, I’d simply bump barrels, mags, go AICS, add spacer and bolt head and run another 18” Bartlein #3 7”twist .22 ARC at bolt gun pressures with 88gr ELD-M’s for training and everything else.

One single rifle???

Tikka t3x, 30-06, nightforce SHV 3-10, TBAC ultra 7, 18” barrel, 180g AB @2700fps.

That’s my “do it all” Alaska rifle, I’d use it in the lower 48 with no reservations, I have used it on an elk and an aoudad in the lower 48.

I thought about the Seekins action too. I just didn’t imagine enough. I’d want the Seekins PH3 action in the XLR chassis. XLR just doesn’t make those …yet. They need to get on it.

A few years ago I built mine. 7 saum defiance tenacity, bartlien 3b spiral flutted 24", McMillan game warden, nightforce atacr 4-16x42 mil r, berger 175 elite hunter doing 2830 fps.

- Scope
Maven RS1.2 MIL
- Mount/rings
Warne Mountain Tech
- Suppressor/brake/bare muzzle
SRS Pro 3 self timing
- Stock
Rokstok, 14.5" LOP, Trinity rail
- Bottom Metal
UM DBM

I built this gun this year. Has become my favorite rifle overnight.

- Cartridge: 6 Creedmoor
- Action: Zermatt Origin
- Barrel/specs of barrel: 20” Proof Carbon
- Trigger: Trigger Tech Special
- Scope: Nightforce NX-8 4-32 Mil-C
- Mount/rings: Nightforce Ultralight
- Suppressor/brake/bare muzzle: Dead Air Nomad Ti
- Stock: Proof Reseárch Mountain Tactical
- Bottom Metal: Hawkins M5

Putting together went really fast. The bedding took the longest. And man does it shoot well. I built it so I had a 6 Creedmoor to test the new heavy TMK’s.
