If you could build any short action coyote gun…

I had that same idea last summer and i built a 22-250 Ackley with a 22” bartlein carbon barrel in 10 twist with zero freebore. It shoots that 64 Sierra tipped gameking over 3500fps and is an absolute coyote hammer.

I’ve harvested a fair number of coyotes with a 22-250 and it was fine on fur. Fox, not guaranteed. A caliber sized entrance no exit. 22 creed with the same bullet at same speed would of course do the same. 45-55 grain bullets

That set up with the 64 TGK is not fur friendly at all. It will hollow out a coyote pretty easy and leave grapefruit exits on most shots with exception of perfect frontals. If I was saving the furs I would opt for a 60vmax or 55 nbt.
I used 55 nbt and they were fur friendly. Closest shot was about 40 yards

22creed is high on my list, partly because I don’t want to “waste” a custom build on cartridge that I could get for $450 with something like a Ruger American

I haven’t seen a noticeable difference in nbt vs vmax in performance or size of exits (same weight and fps).

I was hoping the nbt would do a little better on quartering shots, but it didn’t.
You're having exits with the nbt? At what ranges? My coyote hunting days were mostly in college. Where I went to school there was a bounty. Shots were typically shorter. 200 or less. Well, shots were longer. Shots that I actually hit the coyote were typically 200 yards or less. Lol, didn't have a rangefinder at the time.

Depends on the angle if there is an exit or not. Fringe hits still leave big holes.

Yeah, you won’t be able to save fur with the heavy for caliber bullets it’s designed for but it’ll be more versatile. One potential concern with the 22 creed would be twist and bullet integrity. A 1-7 or 1-8 might tear a 45 grain v max apart at 3700 fps.

You are correct on bullet integrity in an 8 twist 22 creed. A bullet out of an 8 twist at 3700fps works out to be 333,000rpm while most cup and core bullets they say should not spin over 300,000 rpm. Also with a light bullet in a 22 creed you can run into excessive freebore allowing too much jump. If want to shoot the heavy for caliber 70 grain plus bullets… go for the 22 creed… if wanting to shoot under 60 grain or so bullets get the boomer 22-250 and never look back. That’s just my opinion and is worth maybe 0.02 at best. Both are great guns and can’t go wrong with either.

I’ve never had anything walk away from my .22-250 with 55 grain vmax.
All of these new calibers are cool and all but I tend to stick to the older tried and true ones.
