If the SWFA 3-15x42 was illuminated, I would have 6 of them.

I think the Europeans have the right idea for stand hunting in the dark forest with a 6 or 8x fixed scope with a 56 mm objective and a German reticle with thick posts and no illumination. They legally hunt at night with those. Look up the S&B Klassic 8x56. I use my 6x SWFA when I go back east for whitetails and have not had problems.
A fixed power certainly has a bunch of advantages in terms of reliability, simplicity, weight, and the $ can go to better glass etc.

I'll give my 6x another shot in the woods. Maybe I've been shortchanging it.

With a "normal" caliber I would question the need for the MQ reticle but in a straight wall state the drop might actually come in handy lobbing bowling balls out of a 450 Bushmaster or 350L

There was some discussion of an 8x50 version in the future.
That would be cool in principle.

In the SE MI woods, 6x is borderline too much. My shots are from the tips of my boots to 125 yards or so with the vast majority being 50-100

My 1-4x Is pretty damn perfect. It only feels like too little on a square range when I'm trying to shoot tight groups at 100. Then I get to the blind and it's like oh. Right. This is perfect.

I don’t know why SWFA doesn’t put forth some effort to own a niche market. Clearly low light and light weight is a need in the industry.

Make a 8x 50 or 56 with better glass, fire dot style illuminated reticle under 20ozs and dials only for distance for 8 Mils, capped windage with a Mil reticle that lacks diamonds and is similar to the Maven Mil. Oh and all for $500.
All of these already exist in SWFA’s world. All the pieces are there they only need to put them together.

Perfect for a clip on thermal or regular hunting scope. I would be done, life is awesome and animals would fear me.
