A fixed power certainly has a bunch of advantages in terms of reliability, simplicity, weight, and the $ can go to better glass etc.I think the Europeans have the right idea for stand hunting in the dark forest with a 6 or 8x fixed scope with a 56 mm objective and a German reticle with thick posts and no illumination. They legally hunt at night with those. Look up the S&B Klassic 8x56. I use my 6x SWFA when I go back east for whitetails and have not had problems.
I'll give my 6x another shot in the woods. Maybe I've been shortchanging it.
With a "normal" caliber I would question the need for the MQ reticle but in a straight wall state the drop might actually come in handy lobbing bowling balls out of a 450 Bushmaster or 350L
