Quick question, if the Outfitter is your guide on the hunt, would you tip them the same since the make the profit?

I typically do 10 -15% of hunt cost for guide, plus cooks.

Thank for you advice!

Just depends. we were on a hunt down in Texas, the total cost was 13k, it was all done by the family, no outside employees. I felt like the service was good but also included in the what I'd paid since they had no employees to pay. We gave them 500 bucks.

I asked this same question a few years ago and after going through it I tipped 10% and also gave some gifts. If your experience was as good as mine and your pockets deeper than you could plan for even more. My outfitter/guide went above and beyond and was everything and more than i could of expected. obviously, if your experience is subpar which doubtful it will be you might consider tipping less or not at all. If the outfitter/guide is invested in what there doing and wants you to come back some day to continue his livelihood they will do everything in their power and more to make sure your happy. ive hunted with a few different outfits and my best experience overall is when my guide was also the outfitter/owner, the main guy, etc. If you were like me at all at first your thinking man, why should I have to pay the owner even more money if hes the one guiding me, but trust me if they do there job and it all comes together it will be special and you'll want to tip him

If he kicked-A for you, I'd tip.

As an outfitter myself, I never expect it, but haven't refused it when offered.

When I left 500 bucks, I thought it was too much. We got some great animals but the guide/owner spent most of the time texting his girlfriend and arguing with his ex wife on the phone. I haven't been on many guided trips and certainly not any real high end ones but the ones I've been on, I have been surprised at the lack of professionalism.

thats low-to-no tip territory

One of my best friends drew a once in a lifetime tag in an area that was recently opened to elk hunting and hired a guide that was primarily deer and antelope but supposedly knew were the elk were. Well it didn't take long to find out the guy was a drunk (showed up late, just wanted to go to the bar) and my friend was not happy but then toughed it out with him and within 2 days had killed the biggest bull of his life that scored 380"
What would you tip him? go from hating him to your best friend
