Found this old brass from 1907 while sheep hunting and I was wondering if anyone knows what this caliber is? Found in the cliffs not far from where I ended up shooting my ram. Pretty cool to find evidence of old sheep hunters.

Are your hands massive? Looks small for an 06 in that scale but that was my initial guess too…

My bad for not including OAL. It is about 2 1/8” long and next to a 6.5PRC brass for comparison. Quite small and definitely not a 30-06.

The Headstamp is EH sigma 1907. I’m guessing it is some sort of military round of sorts?

Think you are right. I looked up case dimensions and it matches on every measurement for the 7 Mauser

Thanks everyone for the help. Going to incorporate it into the habitat for my rams mount. Seems appropriate to include a piece of sheep hunting history found near my ram.
That will be a great mount. Please share some photos of it when you get it finished. Would love to see it. -Thanks. Rufus

I've happened across a couple of pieces of old brass on sheep trails in the last handful of years. In each case I've thought it was pretty cool following in the footsteps of another hunter who found success in the same area. The one we picked up this year was a 300 Dakota, which I hadn't heard of before. I wonder what stories these pieces of brass would tell if they could talk...

I found one on a Stone sheep mountain...figured it was a .303 British by the looks of it.....nope it was a .30 US otherwise known as a 30-40 Krag. Wished I knew the story of when it was fired and at what!
