Id like to get another gun!
Looking for a fun range weapon to use out to 600 yards (max range where I can shoot). I want to spot impacts. Would like to keep total weight between 9-10# so it can cross over to hunting if necessary but mainly a bench gun.
-Looking at 6 or 6.5 creed or maybe a 223???
(I’m leaning 6 creed)
-Trying to keep price under/around $2k for rifle.
-bolt action
I can get a good deal on a SA Waypoint 2020 in 6 creed or 6.5 creed. SA is also giving away XD Elite 10mm with purchase right now. Also thinking about Seekins Havoc PH3. Or build off a Tikka???
If a Tikka build, what stock would you run? I probably wouldn’t rebarrel unless absolutely necessary.
As far as scopes I’m thinking something around a 5-25x50.
-Trijicon Tenmile, Zeiss V4, or Vortex Viper HD
Any thoughts or experiences using any of my listed rifles/scopes appreciated!

Yes I was looking at that one but what stock?
I’m open to anything but I’m used to traditional hunting stocks.
Forgot to mention the Ruger American g2 could also be an option as a build.

Just use the CTR 223 in the stock that it comes in.
True, if I went the ctr route I would certainly run it first before choosing to replace. The stock could become simply cosmetic. I’m liking the thought of going 223, definitely cheaper. Maybe only downside is hearing the impacts. When I hit steel with my 300 I can hear it through my ear plugs although viewing them is much tougher, lol!

I’ve been debating this same thing. Ultimately decided on Tikka CTR 20” 6.5 in a KRG Xray. Should only be about $1500 if you can find a used one but less then 2k retail. I wanna get a NX6 for it but considering a trijicon as well

If cheap matters, the CTR in .223. If flat, fast, and low-recoiling are of interest, rebarrel a used CTR from .308 or 6.5cm into .22 Creedmoor.

Any experience with the tracking of the 3 scopes I listed. Tracking and reticle would be most important for me. I’ve read the drop tests threads. Likely won’t be a hard use hunting rifle so….

I think a .223 CTR would be a lot of fun.

No experience with Zeiss or Trijicon, but I had a Viper that did not always dial reliably. I also don't think I could stretch a .223 far enough for 25x to be useful. Shooting 75gr at 800yd, I can barely hear the impact and basically rely on my range's target indicator lights. In my opinion, 15-18x is plenty for a top end magnification and might open some options for you.

Hard to go wrong with a Tikka chambered in anything between .233 and 7mm08. If I was you, I would wait for the Tikka in 6 CM. Or get one in .243 or .223 now if you are in a hurry.

I am very partial to wooden RokStoks, but they hurt your budget a lot. This is my .243. There aren’t many like it…

As far as scopes are concerned, I like the TenMile the most of the ones on your list. My friend has one and it is great. My other friend just got a higher end Vortex, but he couldn’t make it out to shoot with me these past couple of days. I also recommend checking out the AccuPoint 4-16x50. I also recently tried out a secondhand SWFA 5-20x50 and I really like it.

I wouldn’t suggest a 6cm for strictly a range toy, the barrel life is too short. 6.5cm can run on the edge of spotting impacts reliably IME. If I were you, a 223/556 or 6arc would be the options. I love shooting the 5.56 long range. I have a spot I like to challenge myself and put soda cans out at 475y and shoot them with the 5.56. Last time I went 4 for 7 shots with a 15ish mph cross wind. That was before we stretched it out to 960 yards. That rifle wears a 10x Swfa and presents no issues shooting those targets. I just sighted in a 6arc yesterday that I plan to really stretch out there when I get a load dialed in.

I would spend more on the scope but I’m putting an NX6 on my primary hunting rifle and need to quit splurging haha…I think the Tenmile will do everything I would ask of it

I have a waypoint in 6 creed. Got it just because of a crazy sale but mine shoots lights out. I shoot it regularly not just to hunt with. Wearing out a barrel shouldn’t stop you from shooting what you want they aren’t hard to change, but it’s something to be aware of I guess.

I’ve got an NX8 4-32 I’m gonna sell on here soon cheap just to move it if you’re interested, haven’t listed it yet.

I’ll pm you. Christ…. more decisions

I'll echo the CTR in 223. It's probably my favorite rifle to shoot. I have 2400 rounds down my factory barrel and it is still hammering away.

I tossed that rifle in a KRG Bravo for a season or two, then moved to a McMillan Mountain Tracker LR. For the money, the KRG is hard to beat. Using it for field work was very comfortable as well.

I am buying a Tikka LH 6.5, ordered a Kreiger #4 barrel, and will have my smith chamber it in 22 Creedmoor. Well under $2k for everything.
However I am also going over your budget and ordered a McMillan Game Warden stock for it.

Are you a supressed shooter? If so i have no issues hearing impacts at 700 yards in a 10 mph wind with a 223. 223 is definitely a fun gun, awesome range trainer. Ill never sell mine now. Best rifle decision i have ever made

I have a Tikka t3 barreled action in a MDT Oryx Chassis in 6.5 Creedmor with a Leupold VX-4HD 4-16x50, and a Gemtech tracker suppressor on it. Low recoil, almost no muzzle blast at all and ammo is readily available. I know everyone hates on the 6.5 Creedmor but it really is hard to beat for a 700-1000 yard gun.
